题目内容

17.Because,like most of you,I began college in my teens,but the second year,I was offered my dream job at Universal Studios,so I dropped out.
Well,I left college because I knew exactly what I wanted to do,and some of you know,too-but some of you don't.Or maybe you thought you knew but are now questioning that choice.Maybe you're sitting there trying to figure out how to tell your parents that you want to be a doctor and not a comedy writer.
I told my parents if my movie career didn't go well,I'd re-enroll.It went all right.But eventually,I returned for one big reason.
Most people go to college for an education,and some go for their parents,but I went for my kids.I'm the father of seven,and I Kept insisting on the importance of going to college,but I hadn't walked the walk.So,in my fifties,I re-enrolled at Cal State-Long Beach,and I earned my degree.
Well,what you choose to do next is what we call in the movies the'character-defining moment.'
Life is one strong,long string of character-defining moments.And I was lucky that at 18I knew what I exactly wanted to do.But I didn't know who I was.How could I?And how could any of us?Because for the first 25years of our lives,we are trained to listen to voices that are not our own.Parents and professors fill our heads with wisdom and information,and then employers and mentors (有经验的顾问)take their place and explain how this world really works.
And I want to be clear that your intuition(直觉) is different from your conscience.They work together,but here's the distinction:Your conscience shouts,"here's what you should do,"while your intuition whispers,"here's what you could do."Listen to that voice that tells you what you could do.Nothing will define your character more than that.

31.What's the right order of the events in the speech?C

解答 CBC
29.C 推理题.根据第四段but I went for my kids以及So,in my fifties,I re-enrolled at Cal State-Long Beach,and I earned my degree.可知,在我50几岁去上大学主要给孩子树立榜样,故选C.
30.B 推理题.最后一段Your conscience shouts,"here's what you should do,"while your intuition whispers,"here's what you could do告诉我们你的良心告诉你应该做什么,你的直觉告诉你能做什么,所以在选择自己事业上还是要靠直觉,故选B.
31.C 细节题.从第一段I was offered my dream job at Universal Studios,so I dropped out.可知,最开始我放弃上大学机会,去参加工作,所以最先发生的事情是④①,在50几岁重新去上大学目的是给孩子树立榜样,故②③后发生,故选C.

5.A few years ago it was popular to speak of a generation gap,a disagreement between young people and their elders.Parents said that children did not show them proper respect and obedience (服从),while children complained (抱怨) that their parents did not understand them at all.What had gone wrong?Why had the generation gap suddenly appeared?Actually the generation gap has been around for a long time.Many people argue that a gap is built into the fabric (结构) of our society.
One important cause of the generation gap is the chance that young people have to choose their own ways of life.In more traditional societies,when children grow up,they are expected to live in the same area as their parents,to marry people that their parents know and agree to,and to continue the family occupation (职业).In our society,young people often travel great distances for their education,move out of the family home at an early age,marry or live with people whom their parents have never met,and choose occupations different from those of their parents.
In our easily changing society,parents often expect their children to do better than they did:to find better jobs,to make more money,and to do all the things that they were unable to do.Often,however,the strong desire that parents have for their children are another cause of the disagreement between them.Often,they discover that they have very little in common with each other.
Finally,the speed at which changes take place in our society is another cause of the gap between the generations.In a traditional culture,elderly people are valued for their wisdom,but in our society the knowledge of a lifetime may become out of date overnight.The young and the old seem to live in two very different worlds,separated by different skills and abilities.
No doubt,the generation gap will continue to be a feature (特点) of American life for some time to come.Its causes are rooted in the freedom and changes of our society,and in the rapid speed at which society changes.

2.My daughter Kelly is a cautious person. She needs to warm up to situations, and is hesitant to try new things. When with close friends, she becomes a leader who laughs loudly and chants,"Girls rule, boys drool."But when that comfort zone is not around her,she is shy and nervous.
This has been challenging for me at times."Shy"is not a word that I think has ever been used to describe me.But this has been a year of firsts for my girl that has filled her with a new sense of confidence. This year she moved to lap lane in swimming where she was preparing for a swim team. This year she learned to ride a bike without training wheels. And this year she completed her first kids'triathlon (三项全能).
On Saturday, with a thunderstorm coming soon and my son's birthday party later in the day,we all went out in the dark of the morning for Kelly to participate in her first triathlon. We practiced transitions from swim to bike to run with her,we got all the equipment she′d need, and we kept talking about the race. But as we waited the two hours for the older kids to finish before her turn, she held my leg a little harder and told me she loved me a few too many times. She was nervous but trying to keep it together.
And then it was her turn. From the second she jumped into the water,my heart soared. My daughter transformed into the most confident human being I had ever seen. She dominated that swim, crushed that bike ride and ran to the finish with the biggest smile on her face.
I can honestly say that I never felt so proud of someone in my entire life.It wasn′t because she did a sport or anything like that.It was because she was afraid of something and conquered that fear with confidence and a fire I hadn′t seen before.
All day I would find myself just looking over at her and smiling. She might be wearing the finalist medal but I felt like I won that day.I won the chance to see my girl shine.
Shine on,sweet baby.

7.Child raising is probably one of the most difficult jobs for people to do all over the world.Since babies do not come with child raising manuals(指南),couples,especially future mothers,have to learn from their mothers,aunts,mothers-in-law,or any other relative who is close to them.
As children grow up,parents have to find reasonable ways in order to help their children,advise them,punish them,lead them to achievements,and teach them.Sometimes children under ten may behave inappropriately.For example,they learn to say offensive words and they show no respect to their relatives.I think parents in these cases should punish their children in a reasonable way.Children must know those kinds of attitudes are not good at all.
There are many aspects which influence parents in this hard job, for example, the culture in which they live, the economic situation in their society, and the religious environment.
One group consists of people who don't have economical resources or education.In this group,people get married when they are teenagers.Their Children are taken to their grandparents'homes,so the job of child raising is done by grandparents instead of the real parents.If the grandparents are on the sidewalks selling newspapers,cigarettes,or magazines,the children will be like them,too.Some of them even end u being wallet thieves,gang members and drug users.
Other groups of people are hard workers or well-educated.The children grow up in their parents'homes and are disciplined and punished differently.They learn to respect other people,and they are led to achieve in school,sports and communityservice.When they grow up,they often become political leaders,community leaders,and professionals in their fields.
5.Can trees talk?Yes-but not in words.Scientists have reasons to believe that trees do communicate with each other.Not long ago,researchers learned some surprising things.First a willow tree(柳树) attacked in the woods by caterpillars(毛毛虫) changed the chemistry of its leaves and made them taste so terrible that the caterpillars got tired of the leaves and stopped eating them.The even more astonishing,the tree sent out a special vapour-a signal causing its neighbours to change the chemistry of their own leaves and make them less tasty.
Communication,of course,doesn't need to be always in words.We can talk to each other by smiling,raising our shoulders and moving our hands.We know that birds and animals use a whole vocabulary of songs,sounds,and movements.Bees dance their signals,flying in certain patterns that tell other bees where to find nectar(花蜜) for honey.So why shouldn't trees have ways of sending messages?
21.From the passage we know that caterpillarsA.
A.like willow trees

A.have a chemical change and become tasteless
B.have a pleasant taste

D.are communicating
