13.The revised edition of the Dictionary of Modern Standard Chinese has just been released,with more than 100new terms added to it.The new terms include weixin,or WeChat etc.There are also some older words recently used again and repurposed for contemporary(当代的) use,such as tuhao.Commonly used in the 1930s to refer to local persons who are rich but cruel,tuhao today laughs at a new privileged class that has appeared in China:people who are"extremely wealthy but lacking in education or values."
But why did weixin and tuhao make the cut, while other popular terms were shut out? Not admitted to the new edition were such words as diaosi, shengnü,and baifumei.
Li Xingjian,the chief editor of the dictionary,said about 30language experts worked for more than three years to select the new terms.They took into account three main considerations:whether the term has entered public topic,whether the use of the term has become stable and whether the term meets a minimum level of tastefulness.
"We considered and discussed a huge list,"Mr.Li said."A term like diaosi is not very tasteful,and it's unlikely to be used for much longer.And shengnü,we thought it wasn't that significant.It's used a lot by young people online,but otherwise people don't really use it."
"On the other hand,tuhao has always been around.It has a mocking(嘲弄的) meaning,but it's not necessarily negative,"he said."We think it'll stay around for a while,because in real life there really are these kinds of people and therefore a need to describe them."
The Dictionary of Modern Standard Chinese,first published in 2004,is appreciated especially by scholars and those interested in contemporary usage.But it is not the first reference dictionary in China.That honor still goes to the New China Character Dictionary and the Contemporary Chinese Dictionary.Every five years,the Dictionary of Modern Standard Chinese is revised,with outdated words dropped to make room for new ones.

68.Why was shengnü not chosen into the new Dictionary of Modern Standard Chinese?D
A.Because it is never used in their daily life.
B.Because it is not popular on the Internet these days.
C.Because it is neither tasteful nor likely to endure long.
D.Because it is not so important and is mainly used online by young people.

10.Businesses are witnessing a difficult time,which has in turn produced influence on consumers'desire to go green.However,shoppers are still laying stress on environmental concerns.
Two thirds of customers say that environmental considerations inform their purchases to the same degree as they did a year ago, while more than a quarter say that they are now even better aware of the environmental effect on what they buy.
This may help to influence how shops store goods on their shelves.And the companies should still make efforts to become more environmentally friendly.Two out of three people think it is important to buy from environmentally responsible companies,with about one in seven saying that they had even decided to take their custom elsewhere if they felt a company's environmental reputation was not good enough.
Harry Morrison,chief executive of the Carbon Trust,sympathizes:"I understand this situation where survival is very important now.But from environmental considerations,the clock is ticking-we don't have much time.In addition,cutting carbon emission (排放) has an immediate effect as costs drop and a medium-term benefit for the brand."
Larger companies have an extra motivation to look at reducing their carbon footprint,as new rules next year will require businesses to buy carbon allowances to make up for their emissions.Those that have taken early action will have a head start.More than two thirds of consumers are not clear about which companies are environmentally responsible.This suggests that firms that are able to convey clearly their message to the public will be in a pole position to attract shoppers.
The Carbon Trust believes that it can help by informing customers about the good work companies are doing."When companies are granted the standard,they can use a logo in all their marketing,which makes it clear that they are working towards cutting emissions,"Mr.Morrison said.
(Note:Answer the questions or complete the statements in NO MORE THAN 12WORDS.)

78.According to the passage,what is likely to influence shops on what to sell?Customers'environmental concerns
79.A company may lose its regular customers unlessit is environmentally responsible.
80.According to Harry Morrison,businesses will benefit fromcutting carbon emission.
81.According to the last two paragraphs,companies can gain advantages byinforming customers about what they are doing towards cutting emissions.
17.I have to say that my mom is stricter than most parents, and I'm the kind of kid who has a lot of my own thoughts.
I used to think that she's just a picky person that likes to make things more difficult for me,so we once sat down and talked face to face trying to clarify every misunderstanding we have  (25)betweenus.I (26)was convinced(convince) and decided to change my attitude towards her.My mom told me that as we grow, she's also growing, too.Every day,she learns something new about being a mom,and her knowledge of becoming a good mom gradually grows.
(27)Astime passes by,I began to realize that most of her rules,or should I say"point of view",are really to protect us.We teenagers often think that parents are conservative (保守的),and they know nothing about us,but honestly,we're actually still too young (28)to know(know) what's really best for us.
Parents can be wrong sometimes because nobody's perfect, and they may be just like my mom who is still on her way to (29)being(be) a perfect parent! So,to those who often argue with their parents like me:next time, when you really disagree with (30)whatyour parents say, stop and tell yourself that your parents would never try to do (31)anythingto harm you because they love you before you yell at them.
Finally,I really want my mom to know how sorry I am for always yelling at her breaking her heart.I really do want to change because I love her just as much as she loves me.
14.Since IQ testing began a century ago, women have been as much as five points behind, leading psychologists to suggest genetic differences between the male and the female.
That gap has been narrowing in recent years and this year women have moved ahead.
The finding has been made by James Flynn,a world-famous expert on IQ tests."In the last 100 years, the IQ scores of both men and women have risen but women's have risen faster,"said Flynn."This is a result of modernity. The complex modern world is making our brains adapt and raising our IQs."
One possible explanation is that women's lives have become more demanding as they multitask between raising a family and doing a job.Another might be that women have a slightly higher potential intelligence than men and are only now realizing it.
Flynn also made the great discovery that scores in western countries increased by roughly three points a decade, which means people today get 30 more points than those living 100 years ago and that IQs can be improved.
Flynn conducted new IQ tests in western European countries,America,Canada,New Zealand,Argentina and Estonia, which showed that the gap between men and women had become very small. In New Zealand,Estonia and Argentina, women scored slightly higher than men.
Maybe because of this, many women have exchanged the role with their husband in family life.Helena Jamieson,33,works a full-time job and her husband,Luke,37,is a stay-at-home father.Helena said,"I'm definitely the more intellectual person in the relationship and I'm at work full-time rising up the career ladder while he is raising our daughter."
She added,"In the past, men would look down on me,thinking that I was a woman and not as smart as them. But today, things have changed.I think women probably always know secretly deep down that they are the more intelligent ones-but as the gentler sex,we were just quiet about it in the past and let men believe that they ruled the world."
33.In the psychologists'view, what led to women getting lower scores than men in IQ tests?B
A.Family genes
B.Genetic differences.
C.Educational levels
D.Job positions.
34.Helena's words in the last paragraph show thatA.
A.women may have been thinking they are smarter
B.men have the right to continue ruling the world
C.things have changed and men have got less clever
D.women were looked down upon, for they were quiet
35.The main idea of the passage is thatD.
A.wives now serve as breadwinners while husbands raise children
B.people today are much smarter than those living 100 years ago
C.in western countries, women scored higher than men in IQ tests
D.women's IQ has risen faster and has even gone beyond men's.
15."Wanna buy a body?"That was the opening line of more than a few phone calls I got from self-employed photographers when I was a photo editor at U.S.News.Like many in the mainstream press,I wanted to separate the world of photographers into"them",who trade in pictures of bodies or run after famous people like Princess Diana,and"us",the serious newspeople.But after 16years in that role,I came to wonder whether the two worlds were easily distinguishable.
Working in the reputable world of journalism,I told photographers to cover other people's difficult life situations.I justified marching into moments of sadness,under the appearance of the reader's right to know.I worked with professionals talking their way into situations or shooting from behind police lines.And I wasn't alone.
In any American town,after a car crash or some other horrible incident when ordinary people are hurt or killed,you rarely see photographers pushing past rescue workers to take photos of the blood and injuries.But you are likely to see local newspaper and television photographers on the scene-and fast…
How can we justify doing this?Journalists are taught to separate,doing the job from worrying about the consequences of publishing what they record.Repeatedly,they are reminded of a news-business saying:Leave your conscience in the office,A victim may lie bleeding,unconscious,or dead.Your job is to record the image (图象).You're a photographer,not an emergency medical worker.You put away your feelings and document the scene.
But catastrophic events often bring out the worst in photographers and photo editors.In the first minutes and hours after a disaster occurs,photo agencies buy pictures.They rush to obtain the rights to be the only one to own these shocking images and death is usually the subject.Often,an agency buys a picture from a local newspaper or an amateur photographer and puts it up for bid by major magazines.The most sought-after special pictures command tens of thousands of dollars through bidding contests.
I worked on all those stories and many like them.When they happen,you move quickly:buying,dealing,trying to beat the agencies to the pictures.
Now,many people believe journalists are the hypocrites (伪君子) who need to be brought down,and it's our pictures that most anger others.Readers may not believe,as we do,that there is a distinction between clear-minded"us"and mean-spirited"them".In too many cases,by our choices of images as well as how we get  them,we prove our readers right.

C.photographers have free access to photos of accidents
D.profit is the driving force beliind the competition for photos

A.photo editors                          B.photo agencies
