【原文】

W: On today’s program, we have Captain George with us. Welcome, George.

M: Thank you. I’m very pleased to be here.

W: A lot of people have to think about safety in their jobs. But for pilots, safety is extremely important, isn’t it?

M: Absolutely. To get an airline pilot’s license you need a minimum number of hours’ flying time. You must have at least 1,500 hours. And you must be at least 23 years old.

W: Sure. And do all pilots have to be able to speak English? Is that a requirement?

M: Yes. To fly internationally.

W: What are the main safety steps you have to follow?

M: We have a lot of checklists. There are things you must always check before each flight. The first thing is, you walk around the plane, outside, and check that ... you know, nothing’s broken.

W: That there are no breaks in the wings!

M: Actually, most planes have breaks in their wings. Very, very small ones. It’s perfectly safe.

W: Right. And you can still land if an engine breaks down, can’t you?

M: You can take off if an engine breaks down. If it happens a few seconds before take-off, um ... the procedure is, you mustn’t try to stop, because the runway isn’t long enough. So you take off, fly around the airport, and then land again.

Much is unknown about how Covid-19, a new coronavirus, spreads. Current knowledge is largely based on what is known about similar coronaviruses. Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in many different species of animals, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can infect people and then spread between people such as with MERS, SARS, and now with Covid-19.

Most often, spread from person-to-person happens among close contacts (about 6 feet). Person-to-person spread is thought to occur mainly via respiratory droplets (呼吸飞沫) produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes, similar to how influenza and other respiratory pathogens (病原体) spread. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. It's currently unclear if a person can get Covid-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes.

It's important to note that how easily a virus spreads person-to-person can vary. Some viruses are highly contagious (传染性) (like measles), while other viruses are less so. There is much more to learn about the transmissibility severity, and other features associated with Covid-19.

【题目】阅读下面短文, 根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

On Friday evening, Emmett and I went to a movie as scheduled. After purchasing the tickets and drinks, we entered the cinema with delight beforehand, waiting for the beginning of the movie.

When I got up in the middle of the movie, Emmett whispered, “ Carter, where are you going?” “I forgot to call my mom to tell her what time to pick us up.” I whispered back, leaving my jacket on the seat.

I squeezed past the people in my row, trying not to step on any feet while still watching the screen. I didn’t want to miss a thing. Balfour, the good guy in the movie, was trapped in an underground cave.

When I came back, Balfour’s flashlight almost went out. An enormous snake was moving toward him, twisting its body. Balfour struggled to loosen the chains around his hands and feet to reach his magic cape (魔法斗篷). With the cape around him, he could completely disappear.

I crawled (缓慢行进) back across eight people (I counted on the way out), never taking my eyes off the screen. I sat down in my seat slowly, then picked up my drink, and swallowed it quickly. But suddenly my brain said, “That’s not coke. That’s lemonade.” I looked down at the cup, just as the girl next to me shouted, “He drank my lemonade!”

“Shhhh!” the people around us said, making quiet complaints.

“Where’s Emmett?” I asked, as if the girl had hidden him under her seat.

“Carter, down here,” Emmett answered in a low voice. He was two rows ahead of me. I was in the wrong row! Everyone was turning around to look at me.

“Here,” I said, handing the girl her drink.

“Eww,” she said. “You have had a drink of it, so you owe me a lemonade.”

“Shhhh!” everyone said again.

“OK, OK,” I said, starting my crawl across eight sets of feet again. Everybody were complaining as I inched out.

“Don’t come back,” the boy on the end said.

【题目】第四部分:任务型阅读(共 10 小题,每小题 1 分,满分 10 分)

The term “organizational culture” refers to the norms(规范) and values of an organization, which together make up the personality of it. These values and norms are shared by people working throughout the organization. They govern the way employees interact with each other within the workplace. Therefore, improving organizational culture is of great significance, as people want to work for a company that enables them to keep a balance between their work and life. An organization with a good working atmosphere has shown an increase in the productivity of its employees. As a result, the attrition(自然裁员) rates are also lowered, which saves the money involved in recruiting(招收) and training new employees. Therefore, a healthy organizational culture is a win-win situation for the management, the customers, and most importantly, the employees themselves.

When it comes to improving organizational culture, training your employees in the right way is an important step towards it. When your employees know how to do things in the right way and what the company expects from them, the rate of conflicts and errors can be brought down significantly. A basic requirement for a productive environment is a diverse team of enthusiastic people. Through the right training, your employees will become interested in working as a team and improving the working atmosphere, as a whole. Then a productive environment will be created.

Another good way to bring about positive changes in the organizational culture is by analyzing the existing culture and comparing it with the expectations of your employees. Bring about changes accordingly. You can also organize discussions with your team members and talk about matters related to the current culture of the organization.

Conflicts are an unavoidable part of any organization. How they’re handled is an indicator of the common organizational culture. Therefore, when conflicts do arise, the management must settle them quickly and peacefully. More importantly, a transparent and fair conflict resolution mechanism(解决机制) should be created. If employees feel they’re all being treated equally, they’re more likely to accept their mistakes and the judgment of the management at the end of the conflict resolution exercises. Needless to say, such a treatment makes employees feel both at home and indebted to the organization, which just goes a long way towards improving the working environment.
