【答案】Dear Sir or Madam,

I'm one of your customers. I'm writing to make a complaint about your goods.

To begin with, I ordered a notebook computer and a set of English novels on your website two weeks ago, but I didn't receive them until yesterday. To my disappointment, the computer I received isn't the one I ordered. To make matters worse, the books are far from satisfying, as I found some pages missing. Therefore, I hope you can solve the matter for me. I wonder if you can take back those you sent out and replace them. I would appreciate it if you could give due attention to this matter.

Looking forward to your reply.

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua

You fall down on the road and a kid you barely know rushes over to help. You come home after a long day to find your dad has prepared your favorite meal. Just before lunch in social studies class, you learn about places where people don't have clean water or enough food. They're likely to make you feel grateful.
Gratitude (感恩) is one of many positive emotions. It's about focusing on what's good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have. It's taking a moment to reflect on how fortunate we are when something good happens — whether it's a small thing or a big thing.
Making a habit of gratitude can also be good for us. Like other positive emotions, feeling grateful on a regular basis can have a big effect on our lives. Brain research shows that positive emotions are good for our bodies, minds, and brains.
Positive emotions open us up to see more possibilities and take in more information. They improve our ability to develop skills, learn, and make good decisions. When we feel grateful for someone's kindness toward us, we may be more likely to do a kindness in return. Thanking people can make it more likely they'll do a kindness again.
When we feel and express heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to people in our lives, it creates loving bonds, builds trust, and helps you feel closer.

B. What do these have in common?

E. Such kind of people are more likely to succeed.
F. We can use lots of words to describe feelings of gratitude.

【题目】If you were like most kids, your mother told you there were three no-no’s when it came to your fingers: Don’t put them in an electrical outlet, don’t stick them up your nose ( at least not in public ), and don’t use them when you are counting. 1 But experts in education and cognition now believe that using your fingers to do math is not only a perfectly good idea but may even help children become superior students.

It certainly makes sense. When children count on their fingers, they take an abstract concept— mathematics—and translate it into the most basic and visual form. 2 Even when we aren’t actually counting on them, they still can help us on math problem,

3 It activates when we respond to heat, pressure, pain, or the use of a given finger. Studying brain scans, researchers discovered that when students aged 8 to 13 work on subtraction (减法) equations, this region “lights up” on the scans, even if the students aren’t using their fingers. The more complex the problem, the more activities are detected.

The connection between finger use and math ability has been shown on old-fashioned math tests as well. With their eyes closed, first graders were asked to identify which of their fingers a researcher was touching, 4 When college students were given the same quiz, the highest scores once again performed best on calculation tests.

So what does all this mean? For one thing, parents and teachers shouldn’t discourage children from counting on their fingers. 5 Memorizing the multiplication tables may help, but it is not the best option. “I would like to see interesting and creative representations of ideas.” says Jo Boaler, a professor of math education.

Recently, a series of activities have been designed to strengthen students’ perception of their fingers. Maybe in the near future, there will be only two no-no 1s regarding the use of fingers.

A. The first two laws of fingers are as true as ever.

B. There is a section of the brain, called the somatosensory finger area.

C. Researchers also stress that students simply learn better using visual tools.

D. Researchers are unimpressed by those students who finish quickly as well.

E. In fact, experts believe the brain is able to “see” a representation of our fingers.

F. That may sound simplistic, but the researchers offer an interesting explanation.

G. Researchers found those scoring highest on the finger-ID questions scored higher on a math test.

【题目】Life doesn’t always turn out the way we’d like. When situations take an unfavorable turn, we become upset, frustrated, or angry. When others don’t agree with us, or act in a manner we find disturbing, anger is a typical response. With the exception of a few extreme circumstances an angry reaction rarely improves the situation or helps us change our mind. Thoughtful consideration of what feelings and reaction are most helpful actually restores our real power, so consider the following alternatives to anger.

Compassion, consisting of both understanding and empathy, can be a perfect solution to anger. Each person has a right to live life according to their beliefs, dreams, needs, etc. If someone is acting improperly or not living up to our ideals, we need to remove the “shoulds” and remind ourselves that it is a necessary part of their life’s journey. Choosing this alternative response softens one’s heart and prevents anger from arising.

Humor is another powerful tool for lessening anger. We take life and personal offense far too seriously. After all, their behavior is a reflection of their internal environment and has nothing at all to do with us and it is in reality relatively unimportant. Humor puts any serious situation into its proper places. It acts as a protective barrier to emotional pain as we recognize that what is happening has nothing at all to do with us.

So when others behave badly, forgive them for their bad behaviors rather than judge them in your heart. When life hands us the exact opposite of what we requested, make light of it, After all, this life is only temporary so why get so bent out of shape when it isn’t in line with your ideals? Rain on your wedding day? Break oat the umbrellas and boots and dance in the puddles!

1What can we infer from the first paragraph?

A. Anger makes a person more powerful.

B. All the people get annoyed easily.

C. Anger often does no good to the situation.

D. Anger can do something good in most cases.

2How should we respond to others’ misbehavior according to the second paragraph?

A. Criticize it sharply. B. Complain about it.

C. Leave it as it is. D. Understand and accept it.

3What does the underlined phrase mean in the last paragraph?

A. Dull. B. Angry.

C. Delighted. D. Gifted.

4What’s the best title of the passage?

A. Alternative Responses to Anger.

B. The Bad Effects of Anger.

C. The Causes of Frequent Anger.

D. The Risk of Getting Angry.
