【题目】There is a time when Karyn Bosnak couldn’t pay a 59 bill at the grocery store. She was officially broke. She didnt have enough money to get on the subway, but she looked rich. She was a television producer, earned 900 a week, and had a closetful of designer labels like Gucci and Louis Vuitton. But she also had a 20,221.40 credit card bill and an empty bank account. Karyn decided that it was time for a change. She built a website and simply asked people to help her out by sending her a dollar or two.

On the site, Karyn honestly explained her situation. If 20,000 people gave me just 1, Id be home free. Amazingly, it worked. Her website was visited by more than a million people. Although most donors just gave a few dollars, one generous donor sent 1,000. She was on TV and in newspapers and magazines. She was offered a book deal and a movie contract. And of course, she was able to pay off her credit card debt. She also sold her designer clothes on eBay. In her closet, where the Gucci purse once sat, Karyn keeps all the letters that people have sent her.

Its hard to understand why so many people helped a total stranger pay off her huge credit card bill. Karyn explains, I was just honest about what happened; I didnt make up some sob story (悲伤的故事) about saving the world. Her donors think its funny and original, and view it less as a charity than as an entertainment site. Imitators have appeared all over the Internet, some with extremely selfish requests for things like a BMW or a house.

Actually, Karyn was not the first person to put up a website asking strangers for money. The practice has a name: cyber-begging. Most sites receive little traffic and even less cash. Karyn also had thousands of enemies and critics. People sent her hate mail and scolded (斥责) her on websites. Karyn says she never let this anger bother her. 【题目】In some countries, open campus (校园) is widely accepted. For example, French students have a two-hour lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. During their lunch break, they can eat at home or at a restaurant. But students in the Philippines have a tougher schedule. They have only two 15-minute breaks and an hour for lunch.

What Schedule would be best for American schools?

Having breaks between classes is great, but having breaks off campus is even better. There are several advantages to open campus, including simple conveniences such as being able to eat different meals during lunchtime, rather than having the cafeteria (自助食堂) dishes, as well as having the chance to take a break at home.

However, there are more reasons I disagree with allowing high school students the right to have an open campus. Sure, it’s great being able to escape school during the day for a while, but soon enough that may easily become the rest of the day.

If open campus is allowed, it is very possible that such freedom will make it all too easy for students to skip their afternoon classes. Of course, there will be students responsible enough to come back to school.

But unexpected problems such as heavy traffic, city bus delays (延迟) or cars breaking down may prevent them from returning to school. It benefits the students to stay in school during lunch hours to avoid transportation issues.

Depending on how close the school is to restaurants and students’ homes, open campus could be a great idea. Unfortunately, though, most public schools in America are not located close enough to restaurants or students’ homes, thus causing the negative results to outweigh (超过) the positives in the end.

【1】Compared with French students, students in the Philippines .

A.have a poor diet B.get better grades

C.have less freedom D.prefer eating on campus

【2】In the author’s opinion, open campus will probably .

A.lead to heavy traffic

B.cause students to cut school

C.attract more students to school

D.increase students’ sense of responsibility

【3】What can we learn from the text about most American public schools?

A.They have a two-hour lunch break.

B.They allow students to eat outside.

C.They plan to have open campus.

D.They are far from students’ homes.

A.have a strict schedule
