17.The world is filled with smart,educated and gifted people.We meet them every day.A few days ago,my car was not running well.I pulled it into a garage and the young mechanic fixed it in just a few minutes.He knew what was wrong by simply listening to the engine sound.I was amazed.The sad truth is that great talent is not enough.
I am constantly shocked at how little talented people earn.I heard the other day that less than 5percent of Americans earn more than $100,000a year.A business consultant who specializes in the medical trade told me how many doctors and dentists struggle financially.It was this business consultant(顾问)who gave me the phrase,"They are one skill away from great wealth."
There is an old saying that goes,"JOB means‘Just Over Broke(破产)".And unfortunately,I would say that the saying applies to millions of people.Because schools do not think financial intelligence is intelligence,most workers"live within their means".They work and they pay the bills.Instead I recommend that young people seek work for what they will learn,more than what they will earn.
When I ask the classes I teach,"How many of you can cook a better hamburger than McDonald's?"almost all the students raise their hands.I then ask,"So if most of you can cook a better hamburger,how come McDonald's makes more money than you?"The answer is obvious:McDonald's is excellent at business systems.The world is filled with talented poor people.They focus on perfecting their skills at building a better hamburger rather than t he skills of selling and delivering the hamburger.
24.The author mentions the mechanic in the first paragraph to show thatA.
A.he is just one of the talented people
B.he is ready to help others
C.he has a sharp sense of hearing
D.he knows little about car repairing
25.The underlined part in the third paragraph can be best replaced by"D".
A.spend more than they can afford
B.do in their own way
C.live in their own circle
D.live within what they earn
26.Why do talented people earn so little according to the author?B
A.They don't work hard enough.
B.They lack financial intelligence.
C.They don't make full use of their talents.
D.They have no specialized skills.
27.The main purpose of the author is to tell usC.
A.how young peoplecan find a satisfactory job
B.what schools should teach about finance
C.why so many talented people are poor
D.how McDonald's makes much money.

The world is filled with smart, educatedand gifted people. We meet them every day.
Instead I recommend to young people to seek work forwhat they will learn, more than what they will earn,相反,我建议年轻人去寻找他们所能学到东西的工作,而不是他们能挣到钱的工作.
The reason so many talented people are poor isbecause they focus on bui1ding a better hamburger and know little or nothingabout business systems.
I am constantly shocked at how little talented people earn.

7.It was a cold day in December in New York City.A little boy about 10years old was standing before a shoe store on Broadway,barefooted,(56)looking(look) through the window,and shivering with cold.A lady approached the boy and said,"My little fellow,(57)why are you looking so earnestly(虔诚的) in that window?"
"I was asking God(58)to give(give) me a pair of shoes."Was the boy's reply.
The lady took him by the hand and went into the store,and asked the clerk to get a half dozen pairs of socks for the boy.She then asked(59)whether/if he could give her a basin of water and a towel.He quickly brought them to her.She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and(60)removed(remove) her gloves,knelt down,washed his little feet,and dried (61)them with the towel.
By this time the clerk(62)had returned(return) with the socks.Placing a pair upon the boy's feet,she then purchased him a pair of shoes.She patted him on the head and said,"No doubt,my little fellow,you feel more (63)comfortable(comfort) now?"
As she turned to go,the (64)astonished(astonish) boy caught her by the hand,and looking up in her face,(65)with tears in his eyes,answered the question with these words:"Are you God's wife?"
2.Students from Florida International University in Miami walked on water Thursday for a class assignment.To do it,they wore aquatic (水上的)shoes they designed and created.
Alex Quinones was the first to make it to the other side of a 175-foot lake on campus in record time-just over a minute.Quinones, who wore oversized boat-like shoes, also won last year and will receive  500.Students had to wear the aquatic shoes and make it across the lake in order to earn an"6A"on the assignment for Architecture Professor Jaime Canaves,Materials and Methods Construction Class."It's traditional in a school of architecture to do boats out of cardboard for a boat race.I thought our students were a little bit more special than that,"Canaves said."We decided to do the walk on water event to take it to the next level."
A total of 79 students competed in the race this year in 41 teams.Only 10 teams failed to cross the lake.Others who fell got back up and made it to the end.The race is open to all students and anyone in the community. The youngest person to ever participate was a 9-year-old girl, who competed in place of her mother, while the oldest was a 67-year-old female.
A large crowd on campus joined Canaves as he cheered on the racers. He shouted encourag ing words, but also laughed as some unsteadily made their way to the end.
"A part of this is for them to have more understanding of designing and make it work better,"he said.It is also a lesson in life for the students.
Anything, including walking on water,is possible,if you do the research, test it and go through the design process seriously.

7.The food we eat seems to have profound effects on our health.Although science has made big steps in making food more fit to eat,it has,at the same time,made much food unfit to eat.Some research has shown that perhaps eighty percent of human illness is related to food and forty percent of cancer is related to food as well.That food is related to illness is not a new discovery.In 1945,some researchers realized that things commonly used to keep color in meat and other food additives (添加剂) caused cancer.
Yet,these additives remain in our food,and it is difficult to know which things on the wrappings (包装) of food are helpful or harmful.The additives we eat are not all so direct.Farmers often give penicillin (青霉素) to their animals,and because of this,penicillin had been found in the milk of cows.Sometimes similar things are supplied to animals not for their health,but just to make a profit (利润).
The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to get higher price on the market.Although some countries have tried to control such things,the practice continues.
