My name is Billy Smith. I'm 50 years old this year. I was about 440 pounds two years ago. (fortunate), I managed to lose weight.
I began to gain weight when my mom developed Parkinson's disease in 1994. I soon became her caregiver, and continued to provide her care for over 10 years. But when the pressure of taking care of my mother and (keep) my job got too much for me, I began to skip meals and feed on fast food. I gained weight quickly.
My huge weight gain caused me to develop high blood pressure. I also had (difficult) in breathing at times. In 2014 I went to see my doctor, told me that I would die within two years if I didn't lose weight. This wasn't what I expected. I wanted to see my young son grow up, and I knew it was time to make a change.
I started to eat healthy food and work out in the gym. Finally, I (succeed) in losing weight. Now I weigh just 260 pounds. I had never been to my son's Parents' Meeting I was so ashamed and (scare) that my weight would lead to him being laughed at. Now , (look) normal, I can do the things I have never been able to do,should have done as his father.

【答案】Fortunately;with;keeping;difficulty;who;succeeded;because;scared;looking;but

本句中动名词短语keeping my job与前半句中的taking care of my mother是并列结构,都作为介词of的宾语。

(4)difficulty 考查名词。横线前面有动词have,说明横线应该使用名词difficulty做它的宾语,构成句式have some difficulty in doing sth做某事有困难。

本句中形容词ashamed与scared构成并列关系,后面的从句“that my weight would lead to him being laughed at”作为形容词scared的宾语。

Hello. I'm Jan from Mrs. Lake's class. My class wants to work together to help the public. We think we have found a great way to do this. Last month we did a class project on the highways near our town. We learned about the Adopt-a-Highway Program. This program brings people together to pick up litter along the roads. We think it would be a great idea for all students in our school to join the program and adopt(收养) a highway.
Adopting a highway is not like adopting a pet. When a highway is adopted, only part of the highway is cared for by a group of people. The group agrees to work every week to keep its part of the highway clean. Each group gets its own sign that has the name of the group printed on it. The sign is put up at the side of the road. This sign lets drivers know who is keeping that area of the road clean.
The Adopt-a-Highway Program is a great way for people to help their environment look nicer. Also, the government does not have to send out as many road workers. This saves money. Finally, people may try harder to keep roads clean if they see people, especially teenagers like us, cleaning them up.
We will need helpers to care for our adopted highway. If you want to feel great and keep our roads clean, please come with your parents to the meeting next week. We will meet in Mrs. Lake's room on Wednesday at 6:00 P.M. At the meeting, we will talk about which roads are the dirtiest as a result of people's unkind acts. Then we'll try to pick an area to adopt and clean.
I look forward to seeing you at the meeting. Remember to keep our roads clean!

Welcome to your future life!
You get up in the morning and look into the mirror. Your face is firm and young-looking. In 2035, medical technology is better than ever. Many people of your age could live to be 150, so at 40, you're not old at all. And your parents just had an anti-aging (抗衰老的) treatment. Now, all three of you look the same age!

It's time to go to work. In 2035, cars drive themselves. Just tell your “smart car” where to go. On the way. You can call a friend using your jacket sleeve. Such “smart technology” is all around you.
So will all these things come true? “For new technology to succeed,” says scientist Andrew Zolli, “it has to be so much better that it replaces what we have already.” The Internet is one example. What will be the next?
