G. Here're some reasons why self - improvement is important regardless of your age.(这里有一些自我提高重要的原因,无论你的年纪)可以作为本篇中心句总领全文。

E. They make you more aware of your personality, thoughts and feelings.(他们让你更加清楚你的性格,想法和感情)承接自然,选项中的they代指前文中的difficulties and challenges,且选项中出现了本段小标题的关键词aware。

C. And knowing your strengths is important.(知道你的强项很重要)承接自然,符合语境;前句中的identify your personal strengths.

D. However, there'll also be times when you'll fail.(然而,有总有些时候你会失败)在句型上相同,且D与下句内容,不要让失败使你沮丧承接自然,符合语境。

This is a wonderful quality to have as having a learning attitude is essential in achieving success.(这是值得拥有的一个好品质,因为拥有学习的态度是实现成功的基础)是本段的中心句,它强调了拥有学习态度的重要性,故B.

When we are grown-ups, it’s quite natural to look back on our different stages of life and remember who was there to see us through. 1 While some people’s high school friendships gradually end, mine have struck with me through every bit of life since. And I suppose high school friends are the friends you’ll build the strongest relationships with.

2 Whether it is the bad haircut or the braces(牙箍) you wear, your high school friends help you through it all. They tell you that you look wonderful when you cannot go out in public with that hairdo. 3

They understand the most about you. High school friends know you better than anyone else. They can just look at you and know how you’re feeling. You cannot hide much from them. 4 And they’d rather help deal with the problem at hand than let it go. So even when you don’t want to hear it, prepare yourself ----because they’re not going to stop trying until you’re back to your normal yourself.

They make for the best reunion. Reunions are harder to organize when friends live across the country. However, with high school friends, it’s easy to enjoy the time together----you can often pick up just where you left off, no matter how long ago that was. Friendships can be hard to keep. 5

A. We could depend on our friends all the time.

B. They are with you through your embarrassing stages.

C. They can sense something is off when you’re the slightest bit strange.

D. For me, I often think about my fantastic group of high school friends.

E. They build up your self-confidence to get you through each tough situation.

F. Let’s pray the flower of friendship would always bloom brightly in our hearts.

G. But it never seems like hard with the ones you’ve known and loved for long.

Sandi Patty has been a name synonymous (同义的) with Gospel music because of her singing ability since she released her first album in 1979.

Patty’s newest book. The Voice, takes a deep dive into parts of her life she’s kept private for years. Surprisingly, The Voice is not primarily concerned with Patty’s singing voice. Patty was always a talented singer. However, she struggled to find her inner voice and speak up for herself. “I was a shy kid. Words were hard for me,” Patty said.

One of the reasons why Patty found it so difficult to use her voice was a traumatic childhood experience. At age six, she was abused by a friend, an experience she opened up for the first time in the book.

She is sharing the story of her experience now, hoping it will help other people feel less alone. “Feeling alone keeps everybody silent about the tough times in our lives, so we think we’re the only ones,” Patty said. She wrote in The Voice that she felt like it was her job to make everyone feel better.

Friendships were essential for helping Patty find the courage to speak up. They reminded her that she didn’t need to make others feel better because the people she loved didn’t doubt she cared for them.

Friends and family were crucial for helping Patty confront another struggle she faced—shame. She felt unpleasant for insecurities about her weight and her divorce. “I’ve heard it explain that guilt tells us we have done something wrong and shame says we are wrong,” Patty said.

“I want people to know that their stories and their voices matter,” Patty said. “We have to figure out a way to take our pain away and put it where it needs to be, without letting it guide our lives. Pain is a part of our story. It describes us, but it doesn’t need to define us.”

1What does Patty’s newest book focus on?

A.Her singing ability.B.Her dream of success.

C.Her advice on singing well.D.Her private experiences.

2What does the underlined word “traumatic” in paragraph 3 mean?

A.Bitter.B.Relaxing.

C.Valuable.D.Practical.

3How did Patty’s friends influence her?

A.They helped her get rid of loneliness.B.They witnessed her success.

C.They inspired her to act bravely.D.They helped her find out problems.

4What do Patty’s words in the last paragraph intend to show?

A.The need to be independent.

B.The importance of relieving our pain.

C.The necessity of accepting our life.

D.The meaning of learning about ourselves.
