I never know how well Mother could keep a trust until I was going through her things after she died. I discovered something I had 21 for?gotten, something that happened to me as a child.

In April 2014£¬ the world's oldest known message in a bottle was dis?covered floating in the Baltic Sea. It had spent 101 years lost in the ocean! The message was finally sent to the author's granddaughter.

A German fisherman named Konrad Fischer found the brown boltle near Kiel* Germany. He said he nearly threw the bottle back into the water after pulling it out of a fishing net. Then he noticed something inside.

The bottle in good condition contained a Danish postcard with two Ger?man stamps, dated May 17£¬ 1913. Although dampness had made most of the writing illegible(×Ö¼£Ä£ºýµÄ)£¬the readable part of the message asked whoever found it to return it to an address in Berlin. It even contained two stamps lo pay for postage.

From the address, researchers found that the postcard was written by a man named Richard Platz, who was 20 years old when he wrote the mes?sage. While he was hiking on the Baltic coast with a nature appreciation group, he threw the bottle into the sea. Then the researchers began a re?search for any living relatives of his. Sure enough, they were able to find his 62-year-old granddaughter, Angela Erdmann, who still lives in Berlin.

"It was almost unbelievable*" Erdmann said upon being presented with her grandfather's bottle and message. "That was a pretty moving moment. Tears rolled down my face."

Erdmann never knew her grandfather, who died in 1946£¬ but says that the discovery of the bottle has made her want to learn more about him.

The bottle remained on display at the International Maritime Museum in Hamburg until May 1. After that, the researchers examined the postcard and tried to figure out the meaning of the rest of the message.  There were still six miles to walk, and I came along as fast as I could. The night grew darker and darker£¬and I wished for my 1 £¬because I knew that some of the bears had come out of their winter caves. I had seen their 2 when I went to town in the morning.

Then I came11 into an open place£¬and there£¬right in the middle of the road£¬I saw a big£¬black bear.

He was standing up on his hind legs, looking at me. I could see his eyes12 I could see his pig snout( ¿Ú±Ç²¿).I could even see one of his claws, in the starlight.

My13 stood straight up. I stopped in my tracks, and stood still. The bear did not move. There he stood, looking at me.

I knew it would do no good to try to go around him. He would follow me into the dark woods, where he could see 14 than I could.

I had to pass that bear,to get home. I thought that I could 15 him,he might get out of the road and let me go. So I took a deep16£¬and suddenly I shouted with my strength and ran at him, waving my 17 He didn't move.

At last I looked around£¬and I got a solid heavy branch that had been broken from a tree by the weight of 18 in the winter.

I lifted it up in my hands, and ran straight at that bear. I swung(»ÓÎè)my branch as 19 as I could and brought it down. Bang!On his head.

And 20 he still stood, for he was nothing but a big, black, burned stump(Ê÷×®)£¡
