A man enters a store to buy milk. He walks out of the store with milk, That’s all-- milk. At the same time, a woman enters the same store and also buys milk. Besides, she buys chicken to make dinner that night. Then she gets coffee for breakfast and remembers stamps to mail the bills.

And that is the difference between the female and male brains simply explained in a store. Generally speaking, men do one thing at a time while women do many. Doing many things at one time is often called multi-tasking a very popular word these days.

Now scientific research supports this theory about male and female brains. A recent study has proved what we have known all along—men and women think differently.

Last year, some scientists studied brain images of 949 people aged from 8 to 22 years old They found that male brains have more connections only on one side of the brain. In the female brain, they found more activities and connections between the right and left sides of the brain The left side of the brain is known as the side of “reason”. The right one is known as the “creative” side.

Regina Verma, a professor in the brain study, says when women are asked to do something difficult they might use different parts of the brain. Men, she adds, generally use just one side of the brain.

As a result, men generally deal directly with a problem. In fact, there is a strong connection between the “understandings and the “action” parts of men’s brains. Women, however, might include other parts of the brain, like the part connected with reason and the part connected with sensitivity (敏感性) when solving a problem. They take a less direct path to find a solution.

Next autumn when you see wild geese (大雁) heading south for the winter flying in a V formation you might think about what scientists have discovered as to why they fly that way.

As each bird flaps (拍打) its wings, it creates an uplift (上升力) for the bird immediately following. By flying in a V formation the whole group adds at least 71% greater flying range (航程) than if each bird flies on its own.

People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going more quickly and easily because they are traveling on the push of one another.

When a wild goose falls out of the formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance (阻力) of trying to go alone and quickly tries to get back into the formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front. When the head goose gets tired, it flies back into the formation and another goose flies to the front. It is wise to take turns doing difficult jobs whether it be people or wild geese flying south.

Wild geese honk (发出雁叫声) from behind to inspire those up front to keep up their speed. What can we learn from this?

When a wild goose gets sick or wounded by gunshots, and falls out of the formation, two other geese will fall out with that goose and follow it down to lend help and protection. They will stay with the fallen goose until it is able to fly or until it dies, and only then will they go on with their own or with another formation to catch up with their group.

A group of swimmers has described how a group of dolphins protected them from a group of white sharks (食人鲨)off the coast of New Zealand. The lifeguards were on a training swim when they came across a group of great white sharks before the dolphins raced in to help.

The swimmers were surrounded by the dolphins for forty minutes before they were able to make them safety back to the beach. It was an uncomfortable experience as they were circled by a group of white sharks, which came within a couple of meters of them. Lifeguard Rob Howes was in the water with a colleague and his teenage daughter. He said around half a dozen dolphins suddenly appeared and forced them to gather together. The mammals swam in tight circles to create a protective wall between the white sharks and the lifeguards as the great white sharks were under the surface.

The swimmers said the dolphins were extremely upset and repeatedly slapped (拍打) the water with their tails as if to try to prevent the white sharks from attacking them. It’s a day they’ll never forget, especially for one who was on her first day as a volunteer. They have no doubt that the dolphins acted on purpose to protect them. Researchers have said that they’re not surprised. A marine biologist insisted that dolphins, which are considered to be one of the most intelligent mammals, “like to help the helpless.”

UFO stands for "unidentified flying object"(不明飞行物). Many people reported having seen UFOs in the sky. A lot of countries tried to research into them and in 1952 they got the name of UFO.

There were several reports published in the 19th century which were related to UFOs. Denison Daily News in its report of 25th January, 1878 wrote that a farmer, Martin saw a flying object in the sky and it was just like a plate. This was the first time that the word plate had been related to the UFO.

First reports on UFOs came during the World War II. In 1947 the pilot Kenneth Arnold said while he was flying near the Mount Rainer he saw a very bright object in the sky. He told that it was like a plate, too. The information given by Kenneth got lots of attention from the media and people.

Several research organisations gave their reports on the UFOs. They showed direct or indirect physical evidence of UFOs, and sometimes UFOs’ appearance was found in the radar (雷达) screen. Many people try to take video tapes or photos of UFOs as proof. Most UFOs are in plate shape while many UFOs are like cigarettes or half balls.

Many films and TV shows are made about UFOs. There are two famous movies which are created on the topic of UFOs and aliens (外星人), War of the World and Star Wars. UFOs have created a new field in science which is known as Ufology (飞碟学).
