3.Drinking more than two alcoholic drinks daily in middle-age may raise your stroke(中风) risk more than traditional factors such as high blood pressure and diabetes(糖尿病),according to new research in the American Heart Association journal Stroke.
In a study of 11,644middle-aged Swedish twins who were followed for 43years,researchers compared the effects of an average of more than two drinks daily ("heavy drinking") to less than half a drink daily ("light drinking").
The study showed that:
•Heavy drinkers had about a 34percent higher risk of stroke compared to light drinkers.
•Mid-life heavy drinkers (in their 50s and 60s) were likely to have a stroke five years earlier in life irrespective of genetic and early-life factors.
•Heavy drinkers had increased stroke risk in their mid-life compared to well-known risk factors like high blood pressure and diabetes.
•At around age 75,blood pressure and diabetes appeared to take over as one of the main influences on having a stroke.
Past studies have shown that alcohol affects stroke risk, but this is the first study to pinpoint differences with age."We now have a clearer picture about these risk factors----how they change with age and how the influence of drinking alcohol shifts as we get older,"said Pavla Kadlecová,M.Sc.,a statistician at St.Anne's University Hospital's International Clinical Research Center in the Czech Republic.
Researchers analyzed results from the Swedish Twin Registry of same-sex twins who answered questionnaires in 1967-1970.All twins were under age 60at the start.By 2010,the Registry had provided 43years of follow-up,including hospital discharge(出院) and cause of death data.
Researchers then sorted(整理) the data based on strokes, high blood pressure, diabetes and other cardiovascular (心血管)incidents.Almost 30percent of participants had a stroke. They were categorized(将…分类) as light, moderate, heavy or non-drinkers based on the questionnaires.Researchers compared the risk from drinking and health risks like high blood pressure, diabetes and smoking.Among identical twin pairs, siblings(兄弟姐妹) who had a stroke drank more than their siblings who hadn't had a stroke, suggesting that mid-life drinking raises stroke risks regardless of genetics and early lifestyle.
The study is consistent (一致)with the American Heart Association's recommended limit of two drinks a day for men and one for women. That's about 8ounces of wine for a man and 4ounces for a woman.
Regular heavy drinking of any kind of alcohol can raise blood pressure and cause heart failure or irregular heartbeats over time,in addition to stroke and other risks."For mid-aged adults, avoiding more than two drinks a day could be a way to prevent stroke in later productive age,"Kadlecová said.

4.Happiness is contagious, researchers reported on Thursday.
People with the most social connections--spouses,friends,neighbors and relatives--were also the happiest, the data showed."Each additional happy person makes you happier,"Christakis said.
"Imagine that I am connected to you and you are connected to others and others are connected to still others. It is this fabric of humanity, like an American patch quilt."
Each person sits on a different colored patch."Imagine that these patches are happy and unhappy patches.Your happiness depends on what is going on in the patch around you,"Christakis said.
"It is not just happy people connecting with happy people, which they do.Above and beyond, there is this contagious process going on."
And happiness is more contagious than unhappiness, they discovered.
"If a social contact is happy,it increases the likelihood that you are happy by 15 percent,"Fowler said."A friend of a friend,or the friend of a spouse or a sibling (兄弟姐妹),if they are happy, increases your chances by 10 percent,"he added.
A happy third degree friend--the friend of a friend of a friend--increases a person's chances of being happy by 6 percent.
"But every extra unhappy friend increases the likelihood that you'll be unhappy by 7 percent,"Fowler said.
The finding is interesting and it is useful, too,Fowler said.
"Among other benefits, happiness has been shown to have an important effect on reduced mortality (死亡率),pairi reduction and improved cardiac (心脏的)function. So better understanding of how happiness spreads can help us learn how to promote a healthier society,"he said.
The study also fits in with other data suggested in 1984 that having﹩5,000 extra increased a person's chances of becoming happier by about 2 percent.
"A happy friend is worth about﹩20,000,"Christakis said.

1.I had always been unhappy with my weight before I managed to lose weight. As a kid,I was bigger than everyone else around me and gained more weight after college.
One day, when I looked at myself in the mirror,I really disliked how I looked.I knew I had to make a change.Besides,my health was rapidly declining.I thought I should try something to lose weight.
I changed something I ate and made the gym my top priority. However,it was not easy.I had tried medication (药物治疗)before I tried to lose weight in the correct way.Coming off my medication was hard.My body was fighting itself and I had many weight-loss plateaus (停滞期).
I also struggled at the gym sometimes and had a hard time pushing myself through workouts.
Luckily,my trainer kept me motivated. He was driving this bus to success for me.He was my constant supporter and biggest fan. Thanks to him I saw results within two months after starting my journey.20months later,I lost 160 pounds.
Now I can walk more than 50feet without having to sit down.I can do laundry and clean my house.I can go to the grocery store without having to drive myself in the"fat cart".I can do anything I want to without stressing about it.I am finally free!
If you also want to lose weight,my advice is to take small steps every day to reach your goal. When I started,160 pounds seemed so overwhelming to me,but I took small steps and made changes every day to get where I am now.It is not about a quick fix. You can't climb Mount Everest in one day.You have to do it one step at a time!
