It was Tree Planting Day on last Thursday, my classmates and I went to plant trees in a park where is in the west end of the city. In the morning, we gathered at the school gate and went thereby bikes, talking and laughing all the way. Upon arrive, we began to work immediate. Some were digging holes. Some were carrying and plant young trees. Others were watering it. After getting the work done, we put up a board reminding people protect the trees. Before leaving we take some photos to record our green action. Seeing the lines of trees, we both had a sense of achievement.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ No matter what field you are in, there will likely come a time when you have to give a powerful speech to friends, colleagues, or even complete strangers. ¡¾1¡¿ However, being able to give great speeches is often a necessity for those looking to achieve success. Here are a few tips to help you make the entire process easier.

1. Get in the Right Mindset

Visualize yourself before your speech succeeding to help calm your nerves. ¡¾2¡¿ And you should remember that people want to see you succeed, they don't want to see you fail. If you get in the right mindset, you will find the rest comes much easier than you may imagine.

2. ¡¾3¡¿

Make sure that you focus on the point of your speech and the message that you are trying to get across. Don't worry about focusing on the fact that you are giving the speech or any of the props or visual aids that you may have. If you get nervous or stutter during your speech, don't apologize and just fix your attention on your speech.

3. Do Your Research

When it comes to preparing for your speech, it is not only important that you research the topic but that you research your audience as well. Know who you are speaking to. Also if you are able to greet some of the audience members and speak with them before hand, this is a great way to break the ice and feel more comfortable while speaking. ¡¾4¡¿ Make sure you also research the room. Arrive early so you feel comfortable in the room, and practice with the microphone or any equipment you will be using.

4. Practice

It may seem like a simple and rather obvious tip, but unfortunately, adequate practice is something that many people today avoid when it comes to speaking in public . ¡¾5¡¿, but it means practicing out loud£¬standing up in a similar position while giving your speech. Make sure that you practice in front of both the mirror and the audience.

A.Focus on the Point

B.Develop a Strong Message

C.Make sure you take several deep breaths before giving your speech

D.Practicing does not just mean reading the speech over and over again

E.Thus you won't feel as though you are speaking to a room of strangers

F.You may feel stiff, tight or uncomfortable when you are about to speak

G.There are many people struggling with the process of writing and delivering speeches

Researchers Are Racing to Make a Coronavirus Vaccine. Will It Help?

In the early days of January, as cases of a strange, pneumonia-like illness ¡¾1¡¿ (report) in China, researchers at the National Institutes of Health readied themselves to hunt ¡¾2¡¿ a vaccine to prevent the new disease.

Scientists in Australia are also working on vaccine candidates ¡¾3¡¿ (stop) the spread of the disease. Historically, vaccines have been one of the greatest public health ¡¾4¡¿(tool) to prevent disease. But even as new technology, advancements in genomics(»ùÒò×éѧ) and improved global coordination have allowed researchers to move at unprecedented speed, vaccine ¡¾5¡¿(develop) remains an expensive and risky process. That¡¯s ¡¾6¡¿ the vaccines must undergo extensive testing in animals and humans. In the best case, it takes at least a year ¡ª and most likely ¡¾7¡¿(long) ¡ª for any vaccine to become available to the public.

With each new outbreak, scientists ¡¾8¡¿ (typical) have to start from scratch. After the SARS outbreak in 2003, ¡¾9¡¿ took researchers about 20 months from the release of the viral genome(»ùÒò×é) to get a vaccine ready for human trials. By the time an epidemic ¡¾10¡¿ (cause) by the Zika virus occurred in 2015, researchers brought the timeline down to six months. Now, they hope the joint efforts will cut that time in half.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ Like clockwork, nearly every fourth February includes one extra day. February 29th, otherwise known as Leap Day, isn¡¯t exactly a holiday. Instead, it¡¯s there to keep your calendar consistent with the earth¡¯s rotation (Ðýת) around the sun.

According to History, com, Roman emperor Julius Caesar is the ¡°father¡± of Leap Year. Until he came along, people used a 355-day calendar, which was 10.25 days shorter than the solar year. Roman officials were supposed add an extra month every now and then to keep the seasons exactly where they should be. But that didn¡¯t work out all that well. When special occasions started shifting into different seasons around 45 BCE, Caesar consulted with astronomers and decreed (ÏÂÁî) that the empire should use a 12-month, 365-day calendar, which he named after himself, Caesar¡¯s Julian calendar included a Leap Day every four years.

Though Leap Day keeps your calendar in line with the earth¡¯s rotation around the sun, it causes a different kind of problem for leapsters. When should these February 29th babies celebrate their birthdays during the other three-quarters of their lives? Some party on February 28th, while others prefer a two-day celebration that spans the last day of February and the first day of March.

Leap Day can be a nuisance in the legal system. In 2006, a court in Massachusetts was deciding whether criminal John Melo could be released a day early since his 10-year sentence included a Leap Day. In the case, the judge decided that since the man was sentenced to prison for years, not days. Leap Day didn¡¯t make a bit of difference.

Though a few timekeepers have pushed for calendars that don¡¯t include Leap Day, almost all astronomers and societies agree that Leap Day is the best method to keep the calendar on track.

¡¾1¡¿Why was Leap Day created?

A.To celebrate special occasions.B.To honor Emperor Julius Caesar.

C.To keep pace with the solar year.D.To keep track of all the seasons.

¡¾2¡¿What is the problem with the birthday celebration of February 29th babies?

A.It is sometimes delayed.B.It lasts at least two days.

C.It has to be held every other year.D.It may take place on different dates.

¡¾3¡¿What does the underlined word ¡°nuisance¡± in Paragraph 4 mean?

A.Joke.B.Topic.

C.Trouble.D.Mistake.

¡¾4¡¿what is the attitude of most astronomers towards Leap Day?

A.Critical.B.Supportive.

C.Doubtful.D.Cautious.

Among all the fast growing science and technology, the research of human genes, or biological engineering as people call it, is drawing more and more attention now. Sometimes it is a hot topic discussed by people.

The greatest thing that gene technology can do is to cure serious diseases that doctors at present can almost do nothing with, such as cancer and heart disease. Every year, millions of people are murdered by these two killers. And to date, doctors have not found an effective way to cure them. But if the gene technology is applied, not only these two diseases can be cured completely, bringing happiness and more living days to the patients, but also the great amount of money people spend on curing their diseases can be saved, therefore it benefits the economy as well. In addition, human life span (ÊÙÃü) can be prolonged.

Gene technology can help people to give birth to more healthy and clever children. Some families have hereditary diseases. This means their children will for sure have the family disease, which is a great trouble for these families. In the past, doctors could do nothing about hereditary diseases. But gene technology can solve this problem perfectly. The scientist just need to find the wrong gene and correct it, and a healthy child will be born.

Some people are worrying that the gene research can be used to manufacture human beings in large quantities. In the past few years, scientists have succeeded in cloning a sheep, therefore these people predict that human babies would soon be cloned. But I believe cloned babies will not come out in large quantities, for most couples in the world can have babies in very normal way and they also believe measures will be taken to control gene technology.
