【答案】Dear Nancy,

My classmates and I are planning to plant trees by the river this weekend. We all hope you can join us. Here is the schedule.

We are going to meet at the school gate at 8 o’clock this Saturday morning. Since we’ll cycle there and work in the field, you’d better wear casual clothes and comfortable shoes. It would be much better if you could bring some necessary tools. Besides, we’ll have a picnic after finishing planting trees. Everyone is expected to bring their lunch and share it. We may return at around 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

Would you like to join us? Hope to see you then.

Yours,

Li Hua

【解析】本文为书信类文章。在写这一类文章的时候一定要记住“开门见山”的写作原则,在开头就要表明出写作的目的“My classmates and I are planning to plant trees by the river this weekend. We all hope you can join us”。 Since we’ll cycle there and work in the field, you’d better wear casual clothes and comfortable shoes ;it作形式主语:It would be much better if you could bring some necessary tools等等。

【题目】This is the incredible school where the headteacher’s unique dedication to handwriting practice means EVERY pupil is ambidextrous.

Only ten percent of the population are left-handed, and only ONE percent can write with both hands. But all 300 students at Veena Vandini School in India can write with both their left and right hand, with some able to do both at the same time---in different languages.

Every 45-minute lesson features 15 minutes devoted to handwriting practice, to make sure all students at the remote rural school have the skill.

The school, which was founded in 1999, is located in a remote area, in Singrauli district, Madhya Pradesh. School founder and former solider Vp Sharma said he was inspired to demand the lessons by India’s first president.

“I read in a magazine that Dr Rajendra Prasad used to write with both hands. This inspired me to give it a try. Later, when I launched my school at my native village, I tried training the students.

“We began training students from standard I and by the time they reach standard III, they were comfortable writing with both the hands. Students of standard VII and VIII can write with speed and accuracy. Further, they can write two scripts simultaneously, one with each hand.

“Students also know several languages, including Urdu.”

【题目】My first book had been rejected by every major American publisher. My first agent, wasn’t communicating. My dream of a life as a successful author was in tatters.

“It isn’t going to happen,” I said to my friend. “And I have to accept it.”

“If you lose faith in your product, no one else will have faith in it,” she told me.

And, I knew she was right. But, how could I believe in myself when I hit a wall at every turn? I knew I had a good product. The book featured interviews with world-famous people who had learned how to succeed and lead—the hard way. It had information that could help other people. As a consumer, I would have loved that book because it had the great wisdom I so desperately needed. And, their stories made for good reading. I had a good book. What I didn’t have was a publisher. I had to find a way to get that book sold and on the shelves. But, how?

The hardest challenge was forcing myself to do battle again. I had to find the strength to believe in myself when it seemed like no one else believed in me. When I hit a wall, I usually need to get more information to figure out what is going wrong. So, I did some research and found out that my initial vision for the book-where all the interview subjects got their own chapters-wasn’t marketable to big publishers because that format does not sell tons of books. What I had to do was recognize, restructure and rewrite.

I needed an agent. There are thousands of agents. Surely one of them was right for me. So, I started sending out query(询问)letters. Within a week, I had a dozen agents who wanted the book. I chose the one who I thought would believe in me and my dream. She did get me my choices of publishers.

Hard won Wisdom wound up being a best-selling book. But, it almost never was.

【题目】阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇 60 词左右的内容概要。

Whether you’re looking for a quick hotel in the city or a isolated resort in the tropics, where you choose to stay can make or break your vacation experience. But even the most seasoned travelers may not know the difference between the two main types of homes-away-from-home. Besides their first letter, is there any real difference between hotels and motels?

These two types of lodging(宾馆) have the same basic purpose—a place for travelers to sleep—but there are plenty of features that set them apart. For instance, they came to be for different reasons, and at very different times. The word “hotel” dates back to the 1600s and comes from a French word, hotel. That word, just like the English one, referred to a place that provides lodging, meals, entertainment, and other services to travelers.

Motels, on the other hand, are a much more recent—and pretty much exclusively American—lodging option. This word dates back to the 1920s and combines the words “hotel” and “motor.” As America’s major highway system developed, so did motels, filling the need for roadside stops for motorists traveling cross-country.

There are also some smaller differences that can help you figure out which type of place you’re in. Hotels tend to be built for longer stays, while motels are geared more for one- or two-night stops along a journey. Because of this, hotels are much more likely to have offerings like lounges, gyms, and entertainment.

So, in the end, it comes down to what you want from your trip and from your lodging. Want the place you stay to be just as much a part of your travel experience as anything else? Opt for a hotel. Just need a place to pop in and out of to shower and sleep? A motel might be the better choice.
