题目内容

18.Nobody likes home economics (家政学).But thinking back the program could help us in the fight against being overweight and chronic (慢性的) diseases today.
The home economics movement was founded on the belief that housework and food preparation were important subjects that should be studied scientifically.The first classes occurred in the agricultural and technical colleges that were built in the 1860s.When most departments of universities were not willing to accept women,home economics was a back door into higher education.
Indeed,in the early 20th century,home economics was a serious subject.When few people understood germ (微生物) theory and almost no one had heard of vitamins,home economics classes offered important information about washing hands regularly,eating fruits and vegetables and not feeding coffee to babies.
However,today we remember only the fixed ideas about home economics,forgetting the movement's most important lessons on healthy eating and cooking.Too many Americans simply don't know how to cook.Our diets,made up of highly processed foods made cheaply outside the home,have led to many serious health problems.In recent years,many cities and states have tried to tax junk food heavily or to forbid the use of food stamps (食品券) to buy soda.Clearly,many people are doubtful about any governmental steps to push ahead with healthy eating.But what if the government put the tools of obesity(肥胖) prevention in the hands of children themselves by teaching them how to cook?
My first experience with home economics happened 20years ago when I was a seventh grader in a North Carolina public school.A year later,my father's job took our family to Wales,where I attended a large school for a few months.It was the first time I had ever really cooked anything.I remember that it was fun,and with an instructor standing by,it wasn't hard.Those lessons stuck with me when I first started cooking for my husband and myself after college and they still do.Teaching cooking in public schools can help solve some problems facing Americans today.The history of home economics shows it's possible.

6.Koala bears as pets might be appealing to many of us.However,there are quite a few points to consider even before thinking of adopting one.
Koala bears are one of the most lovely Australian animals.In certain cases where the koala has been raised by hand,they have turned out to be quite affectionate pets.These people tied a piece of fur to a pillow and placed it beside a joey (a baby kola) as a substitute (替代物) for the mother koala.This trick seemed to work well with the baby koala.However,it is a known fact that human handling causes stress to koalas.In my personal opinion,this aspect clouds the fact that koala bears can be tamed (驯服).
In Australia the koala is a priority animal as far as conservation status assessment is concerned.It was hunted to near extinction (灭绝) for its fur.In fact the koala had been wiped out from South Australia in the 1920s.However,rehabilitation efforts have brought the animal back in the state.As for the Australia government,the koala is not a threatened animal,but the US government does list the koala as one.
Although they may live in 40to 60kinds of eucalyptus trees,they prefer only 10to 14specific kinds.Koalas sleep for most part of the day,which is about 16to 18hours,and for most of their waking hours all they do is eat.Koala bears eat the leaves of eucalyptus trees.A full-grown koala can eat almost 2to 3pounds of leaves in a day.Despite their slow movements and sweet look,koala bears can be visious when hungry.Other than this,there are the stress caused to koalas due to human handling and the fights that start in koalas.
Almost everyone finds koalas lovely in the zoo.However,as far as having koala bears as pets is concerned,there are legal issues to consider.Other than that,being able to provide for its diet and habitat is another point that needs some attention before any law legalizing their adoption as pets is passed.
67.What's the author's attitude towards people raising the koala?C
A.Optimistic.B.Grateful.C.Cautious.D.Enthusiastic.
68.Why did Australians hunt the koala?A
A.To get its fur.B.To eat its meat.C.To wipe it out.D.To have it for fun.
69.The underlined word"vicious"in Paragraph 4probably meansA.
A.fierce and dangerousB.patient and friendly

13.Thousands of people living in the Chinese capital will celebrate the start of the Chinese New year by heading for the ski resorts (滑雪场).Never mind that Beijing's dry weather seldom produces snow.It is cold enough in winter for snow-making machines to make a covering for the hills north to the capital.And the rapid growth of a pleasure-seeking middle class has formed the basis for this new craze(热潮).
Since Beijing's first ski resort was opened ten years ago,the sport has enjoyed astonishing increase.There are now more than a dozen resorts.Clothes markets in the city have added bright colored ski suits to their winter collections.Mr.Wei,a manager of a newly-opened ski resort in Beijing,sees the growth of an industry that could soon lead Chinese to head for the ski resorts of Europe.In recent years ski resorts offering natural snow have opened in China.But many are in faraway areas of the country and can't really match the equipment and services of some ski resorts in Europe.
Beijing's skiing craze is partly a result of the recent increase in private cars.This has led to the growth of a leisure industry in the capital's suburbs,which until the late-1990s were unreachable to ordinary people.According to Mr.Wei,about 40% of the visitors to his resort come in their own cars.The rest are bused in by schools,businesses or government offices.
The problem is making money.Starting ski resorts requires quite a lot of money:hiring land from the local government,preparing the hills,buying snow machines,making sure there are enough water and electricity to run them,and buying ski equipment for hiring out to customers.
The ski resort where Mr.Wei works cost nearly﹩4m to set up.And,as so often in China when someone comes up with a good idea,many others rush in and price wars break out.Beijing now offers some of the cheapest ski training classes in the world,though with most people rather new to the sport,expecting a few more doing the same job.

64.What does this text mainly talk about?B

D.A sudden increase of ski training classes in Beijing.
65.Why are some Chinese likely to go skiing in Europe?D
A.To visit more ski areas.
B.To ski on natural snow.
C.For a large collection of ski suits.
D.For better services and equipment.
66.What is the main problem in running a ski resort?C
A.Difficulty in hiring land
B.Lack of business experience
C.Price wars with other ski resorts
D.Shortage of water and electricity.
8.When I was a child,I often dreamed of the time when I could leave home and escape to the city.We lived on a farm and,in the winter especially,we were quite cut off from the outside world. As soon as I left school,I packed my bags and moved to the capital. However,I soon discovered that city life has its problems too.
One big disadvantage is money---it costs so much to go out,not to mention basics like food and housing.Another disadvantage is pollution.I suffer from asthma(哮喘),and at times the air is so bad that I am afraid to go outside. Then there is the problem of travelling round.Although I have a car,I seldom use it because of the traffic jams. One choice is to go by bicycle, but that can be quite dangerous.
Of course there are advantages.First, there is so much to do in the city, whatever your tastes in culture or entertainment.Besides, there are wonderful jobs and greater chances of moving to a more important job or position. Finally,if you like shopping, the variety of goods is very surprising---and,what is more, shops are often only a short walk away.
Is life better then,in the city?Perhaps it is,when you are in your teens(十几岁) or twenties. However,as you get older, and especially if you have small children, the peace of the countryside may seem preferable.I certainly hope to move back there soon.
