One possible version:

My parents and I made a tour to Xian during the holiday. Instead of having a travel agency arrange our accommodation, we booked the train tickets and hotel room on the Internet by ourselves. During our tour in Xian, we went to many places of interest, took lots of pictures, and learned about the history of Xian. No tourist will miss the local food in Xian, nor will we. We enjoyed typical local foods, which tasted nice. After I returned, I couldn’t wait to share the photos and experiences with my classmates. The trip to Xian has become a happy memory to me.:

旅行,Instead of 代替,by ourselves自己,places of interest名胜, took lots of pictures拍了很多照片,ouldn’t wait to 迫不及待的做…No tourist will miss the local food in Xian, nor will we. 这句话用了倒装句,We enjoyed typical local foods, which tasted nice. 这句话用了非限制性定语从句。

考点:考查图画类书面表达

There are two types of people in the world. Although they have equal degrees of health and wealth and the other comforts of life, one becomes happy, becomes unhappy. This from the different ways in which they consider things, persons, and events, and the resulting effects upon their minds.

The people who are to be happy their attention to the conveniences of things, the pleasant parts of conversation, the well-prepared dishes, the goodness of the wines, and the fine weather. They enjoy all the cheerful things. Those who are to be unhappy think and speak only of the things. They are, , continually unsatisfied. By their words, they complain about the pleasure of society, offend many people, and themselves disagreeable (不受欢迎的) everywhere. If this turn of mind were founded in nature, such unhappy persons would be more to be pitied. The intention of criticizing and being disliked is perhaps taken up by imitation (模仿). It grows into a habit, unknown its possessors. The habit may be strong, but it may be cured when those who have it are its bad effects on their interests and tastes. I hope this little warning may be of service to them, and them change this habit.

Although in fact it is chiefly an act of imagination, it has serious in life, since it causes deep sorrow and bad luck. Those people offend many others, nobody loves them, and no one treats them with more than the most politeness and respect. This puts them in bad temper and draws them into arguments. If they aim at obtaining advantages in social position or fortune, nobody wishes them success. Nor will anyone start a step speak a word to favor their hopes. If they cause themselves public objections (反对), no one will or excuse them, and many join to criticize their wrongdoings. These people should change this bad habit and be pleased with what is pleasing, worrying needlessly about themselves and others. If they do not, will be good for others to avoid any contact with them. Otherwise, it can be disagreeable and sometimes very inconvenient, when one becomes mixed up in their quarrels.

Gift Idea

The other day I was shopping for Grandma when I realized I had no gift ideas at all.It was not a birthday gift or anything like that.It was simply sort of a hello gift. That is how we do things in my family. We don't really give gifts for special occasions.Instead, we occasionally just give presents to each other to tell other people that we are thinking about them.

That was why I wanted a gift for Grandma. But it was like my imagination had dried up. I have gone through all of the gift ideas in previous years, fruits, wines, cheeses, little handmade crafts, and anything else that you can give to a grandmother.I had even given her gift watches, and CDs.What else was there?

I have always found gift ideas for men a little bit easier than for women, because for men, you can always get the usual things, such as video games, power tools and things like that. With a woman's gift idea, however, you have to know more about her.You cannot just get someone a book or a CD.You have to know all about her taste in movies, music, and literature.

My grandmother likes to read a lot, but what she likes is always pretty popular.I didn't want to get her a book that she might not like, but I was running out of time.I needed a gift idea for this weekend and went to visit her. After all, I hadn't seen her for a long time.I wanted to give her a gift so she would not feel ignored.

Finally, I came up with the perfect gift idea.I made a collection of all the stories I had written in the past year.It wasn't a typical gift idea like a bunch of flowers, but it really worked in the situation. You see, I am a writer and my grandma has always been my fan.

Anyway, I had been learning about bookbinding recently, and had pretty much mastered the art.I figured that I would add a little bit of handmade artwork to the stories, bind it altogether, and give it to her.It took hours to complete, but it was well worth the effort. She absolutely loved it.

1.The writer chose a gift for Grandma to _____.

There was a gardener who looked after his garden with great care. To water his flowers, he used two buckets. One was a shiny and new bucket. The other was a very old and dilapidated one, which had seen many years of service, but was now past its best.

Every morning, the gardener would fill up the two buckets. Then he would carry them along the path, one on each side, to the flowerbeds. The new bucket was very proud of itself. It could carry a full bucket of water without a single drop spilled (溢出). The old bucket felt very ashamed because of its holes: before it reached the flowerbeds, much water had leaked along the path.

Sometimes the new bucket would say, "See how capable I am! How good it is that the gardener has me to water the flowers every day! I don't know why he still bothers with you. What a waste of space you are!"

And all that the old bucket could say was: "I know I am not very useful, but I can only do my best. I am happy that the gardener still finds a little bit of use in me, at least."

One day, the gardener heard that kind of conversation. After watering the flowers as usual, he said, "You both have done your work very well. Now I am going to carry you back. I want you to look carefully along the path."

Then the two buckets did so. All along the path, they noticed, on the side where the new bucket was carried, there was just bare (光秃秃的) earth; on the other side where the old bucket was carried, there was a joyous row of wild flowers, leading all the way to the garden.

1.What does the underlined word "dilapidated" probably mean?

A. dirtyB. darkC. worn-outD. plain-looking.

2.What was the old bucket ashamed of?

A. His past.B. His aging.C. His manner.D. His leaking.

3.The new bucket made conversations with the old one mainly to ________.

A. laugh at the old oneB. take pity on the old one

C. show off its beautiful looksD. praise the gardener's kindness

4.Why was the old bucket still kept by the gardener?

A. Because it was used to keep a balance

B. Because it stayed in its best condition

C. Because it was taken as a treasure

D. Because it had its own function

Tips for Cooking on a Tight Schedule

From my experience, there are three main reasons why people don’t cook more often: ability, money, and time. 1. Money is a topic I’ll save for another day. So today I want to give you some wisdom about how to make the most of the time you spend in the kitchen. Here are three tips for great cooking on a tight schedule:

Think ahead. The moments when I think cooking is a pain are when I’m already hungry and there’s nothing ready to eat. So think ahead of the coming week. When will you have time to cook? Do you have the right materials already? 2.

Make your time worth it. When you do find time to cook a meal, make the most of it and save yourself time later on. Are you making one loaf of bread? 3. It takes around the same amount of time to make more of something. So save yourself the effort for a future meal.

4. This may surprise you, but one of the best tools for making cooking worth your time is experimentation. It gives you the chance to hit upon new ideas and recipes that can work well with your appetite and schedule. The more you learn and the more you try, the more ability you have to take control of your food and your schedule.

Hopefully that gives you a good start. 5. And don’t let a busy schedule discourage you from making some great changes in the way you eat and live!

A. Try new things.

B. Ability is easily improved.

C. Make three or four instead.

D. Understand your food better.

E. Cooking is a burden for many people.

F. Let cooking and living simply be a joy rather than a burden.

G. A little time planning ahead can save a lot of work later on.
