Hello! Welcome to my hometown. Firstly, we would go to the Guandi Temple. It has more than one thousand years old. It is a gathering place for young man on Friday and Saturday nights. Two streets lead to the temple, which have wide sidewalks and are lining with trees. Front Street contain all the food stores. Back Street is a place all the government offices are housed. Finally, we come to the Green Hill. And there is the primary school on the hill. In spite of only one hundred pupils, it was well known. After visiting to my hometown, I'm surely you'll love it better.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ Have you ever dreamed of meeting top scientists in person? If so, what would you want to ask them? For Tan Fanglin, a 15-year-old girl from No.2 High School of East China Normal University in Shanghai, her dream of meeting top scientists has already come true.

In October, she attended the World Laureates Forum(ÂÛ̳)for a second time. Tan was by far the youngest participant among the scientists invited to be at the meeting of the world's sharpest minds. Her discovery about the relationship between the Fibonacci sequence(·Æ²¨ÄÇÆõÊýÁÐ)and B¨¦zout numbers has won her many prizes in youth innovation competitions. This finding has been praised by the famous Canadian mathematician, Professor Rankin. According to Guangming Daily, Rankin has been studying the same theme for five years but with no conclusions.

From a very young age, Tan has always been fascinated by mathematics. This is largely because of the influence of her father, who teaches mathematics in University. But she had not participated in any Mathematics Olympiad exams before. According to Xu Jun, Tan's head teacher from her middle and high school, she doesn't take after-school classes or too many extra exercises either. Her mastering of Further Mathematics and her good grades in school are thanks to the right study method.

Attending this forum enabled Tan to get more inspiration from top scientists. She asked Professor Miesenbock, the 2019 Warren Alpert Foundation Prize winner, what he considered were the best personal qualities for conducting scientific research. Miesenbock encouraged her not to lose her passion and love for what she does. He stressed that people all knew that even Thomas Edison went through hundreds of unsuccessful attempts before finally inventing the light bulb. Tan has met many barriers in her research and often feels upset. The words made Tan feel inspired. "I will keep my curiosity and interests in mathematics and overcome any obstacles(ÕÏ°)in my research," she told Chinese Business View.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿I began cycling in 2004 when I was a poor student. It was dangerous, sure, but cycling is the fastest, cheapest point-to-point form of transport in Melbourne. I own a car now, but that¡¯s just for transporting the baby or groceries.

I hate driving. So it¡¯s been quite encouraging watching the growth in cyclist numbers over the past decade. It is said that over 10,000 cyclists enter the CBD (Central Business District) each day, taking pressure off public transport. But as more people take to cycling as a way of transport, the number of cyclists seriously injured or killed keeps increasing. And that is a sign that our infrastructure (»ù´¡ÉèÊ©) is still not good enough.

Melbourne was once a dream for cyclists--flat, long, wide roads, with plenty of paths along rivers. Now, cycling can be deadly, with roads taken up by cars. I have a friend who broke her back and was lucky to escape death and others with broken bones. In my time riding, I¡¯ve been forced off the road by a truck, cut off by four-wheel drives, and told to get off the road. Drivers are a particularly rude to cyclists. And that¡¯s a sign of exactly one thing: inadequate infrastructure.

We shouldn¡¯t need to be taught how to coexist in the same narrow space. Drivers and cyclists should be kept apart. Designing bike paths so riders are channelled between moving cars and parked cars is deadly. All it takes is one daydreaming driver to fling open the door and you are gone. That¡¯s what happened to the young university student James.

This year, there are to be new cycling lanes (³µµÀ) built on Glen Road, where James died in 2010. But these lanes are not safe. Cyclists must still pass between two rows of cars.

¡¾1¡¿What does the underlined word ¡°that¡± in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A. Some people hating driving.

B. More cyclists having accidents.

C. More people choosing to cycle.

D. Distracted driving happening a lot.

¡¾2¡¿What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?

A. Many people are bad at cycling.

B. There are many cars in Melbourne.

C. It¡¯s dangerous to cycle in Melbourne.

D. Melbourne was once very beautiful.

¡¾3¡¿Which was the major cause of James¡¯ death according to the author?

A. Cross¡¯ carelessness.

B. A driver¡¯s mistake.

C. Unsafe bike paths.

D. An outdated legal system.

¡¾4¡¿What is the purpose of the text?

A. To stress the necessity of safe bike paths.

B. To encourage readers to cycle.

C. To criticize rude driving behavior.

D. To tell a personal story.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ Are you a bookworm? Is your head permanently stuck in a book? ¡¾1¡¿ There are many benefits to reading. Getting into a good novel improves our literacy. But who or what encourages us to pick up a book and start reading?

Of course, when we are young, our parents and teachers inspire us by introducing us to characters that we love or hate. As a child, I loved books written by Roald Dahl, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Twits. ¡¾2¡¿ They are popular with children even today, despite competition from contemporary authors.

One modern-day children's author is J. K. Rowling, who's known for her books about the wizard, Harry Potter. ¡¾3¡¿ The UK's National Literacy Trust awarded her the title for ¡°turning a generation of children into readers¡±.

¡¾4¡¿ It can also help people in difficult circumstances. The author Pat Winslow worked as a writer in prisons and found reading and discussing stories helped prisoners reflect on their patterns of behavior. She says, ¡°very often we would have discussions about the moral compass of a character. What was the motivation of somebody? Why did they behave that way?¡±

Today I like to read factual books such as biographies, where you get an insight into the lives of important and well-known people. I also enjoy looking at travel books and learning about journeys and new destinations. ¡¾5¡¿

But the main benefit of reading is the improvement it brings to our literacy. The more we do it, the better we get and who knows¡ªone day you may become the next Tolstoy, Jackie Collins or even William Shakespeare.

A.If so, that's a good thing for you.

B.It's a good substitute if you can't visit in person.

C.Good writing can really capture our imagination.

D.Reading books is more than an enjoyable leisure time.

E.These fictional stories were funny, twisted and slightly evil.

F.Who are your favorite authors and which are your favorite books?

G.She was named as a ¡°literacy hero¡± for improving people's love of reading.
