Student Union

【答案】Dear friends,

Some students in our school have the habit of eating snacks instead of meals, which is harmful to their health. We’d like to call on all students to develop healthy eating habits.

As we all know, if we eat snacks frequently , the chemicals they contain will build up inside our body and harm our body. Besides, snacks don’t provide enough nutrients that our body needs to function well for the whole day. Therefore, we would call on you to take meals instead of snacks.

Let’s have a healthy diet from now on , Let’s eat more fruit and vegetables every day to prevent diseases so that we can keep healthy.

Student Council

We’d like to ….,We would call on you to …,Let’s have… 。3、连接词和过渡语应用恰当,使文章紧凑连贯。如:as we all know…,besides,therefore等等。

【题目】People living in the country enjoy several advantages that people living in the city cannot enjoy.

This contact with nature is good for health. There are many diseases that are common in the city, but are not to be found in the country, For example, near---sightedness is almost unknown to country people. Because of the absence of cars, one can walk more freely in the country than in the city. There are no rules of the road nor traffic signs to obey. People living in the country can easily get fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and fresh milk, and they get them at lower prices than in the city. Country life is economical (节俭的) in other ways, too. There are practically no temptations to waste money.

Country people are mostly honest. They say what they mean, and make and keep promises with sincerity (诚意). They do not put on air (摆架子). They do not pretend to have those ridiculous (荒谬的) manners which are necessary in what we call polite society.

C. Milk.

D. Fruit.

【题目】Next time you need directions, maybe you can ask an ant. These little creatures are masters of navigation(导航)that some can find their way home whether they're walking forward or backward, according to a study in Current Biology.

Ants often travel long to bring back the food to their nests. But how do they know where they’re going?

Researchers went to Spain to mess with some desert ants. They found an active nest and surrounded it with barriers that forced the foraging(搜寻)ants to follow a particular path back home.Once the ants were familiar with the maze, the researchers would take them up,hand them pieces of a cookie and then put them back in a different location, one that required taking a 90 degree turn to get to the nest.

The research found that the ants carrying a small,easy-to-carry piece would run forward with confidence and were able to head on home. Some ants, however, would drop the cookie and turn around to take a look at the scenery, which allowed the six-legged experts to reset their inner maps, catch their cookies and head in the right direction.

These ants seem to use sky clues, like the position of the sun,to keep them on track. When the researchers used a mirror to make it look like the sun on the other side of the sky,the cornered ants would turn tail for the opposite direction.

So ants integrate(整合)a lot of information to successfully bring home the food.

1What does the word “maze” in Paragraph 3 probably refer to?

A. A nest that active ants live in.

B. An experiment that is done in the desert.

C. A method that helps to locate food.

D. A place that consists of confusing paths.

2Why did some ants stop to look at the scenery?

A. To get over the man-made barriers.

B. To enjoy the scenery along the route.

C. To ensure they're in the right direction.

D. To check directions with their maps.

3According to the passage, what probably helps the ants find their way home?

A. The position of the sun. B. One particular path.

C. A 90 degree turn. D. Pieces of a cookie.

4Where does this passage probably come from?

A. An adventure novel. B. A geography textbook.

C. A science magazine. D. A tourist brochure.

The Cuban iguana is a species of lizard(蜥蜴) of the iguana family. It is the largest of the West Indian rock iguanas, one of the most endangered groups of lizards. This species with red eyes and a thick tail is one of the largest lizards in the Caribbean.

The Cuban iguana is primarily herbivorous; 95% of its diet consists of the leaves, flowers and fruits from as many as 30 plant species, including the seaside rock bush and various grasses. However, Cuban iguanas occasionally consume animal matter, and individuals have been observed eating the dead flesh of birds, fish and crabs. The researchers wrote that quite a few people on Isla Magueyes could have caused this incident.

The Cuban iguana is distributed throughout the rocky southern coastal areas of mainland Cuba and its surrounding islands with a wild population booming on Isla Magueyes, Puerto Rico. It is also found on the Cayman Islands of Little Cayman and Cayman Brac, where a separate subspecies occurs. Females guard their nest sites and often nest in sites half destroyed by Cuban crocodiles. To avoid the attack from them, the Cuban iguana often makes its home within or near prickly-pear cacti(仙人掌).

In general the species is in decline, more quickly on the mainland than on the outlying islands. One of the reasons for their decline is habitat destruction caused by the over consuming of farm animals, housing development, and the building of tourist resorts on the beaches where the animals prefer to build their nests. Although the wild population is in decline, the numbers of iguanas have been sharply increased as a result of captive-breeding(圈养)and other conservation programs.

【3】How many reasons are mentioned for the habitat destruction?

A. Two. B. Three.

C. Four. D. Five.

【4】What's the author's purpose of writing the text?

A. To give us a brief introduction to the Cuban iguana.

B. To show he is concerned about the Cuban iguana.

C. To explain reasons for the Cuban iguana's decline.

D. To draw people's attention to the endangered Cuban iguana.

What looks like an angry old man and lives at the bottom of the ocean? It’s the world’s ugliest animal---the blobfish(水滴鱼).

Its strange skin is shaped by its habitat. It lives 800 meters below the ocean’s surface, a depth where very few other creatures can survive.

Most fishes have a swim bladder(鱼鳔), which is filled with gas and helps them stay afloat. At the depth that the blobfish live, water pressure is 80 times higher than that at higher sea levels and any swim bladder wouldn’t be able to serve its purpose.

The blobfish don’t have a swim bladder because their skin works the same way. It helps them stay afloat without having to use any energy.

The blobfish have a pretty relaxed attitude towards eating. All they do is stay and wait for crabs or lobsters to come by.

Since the blobfish like to eat crabs and lobsters, they often get caught in nets that are used to catch lobsters or crabs and end up dying or being killed. They are not suitable for eating so they are useless for fishermen.

There’s a purpose behind the blobfish’s new title; it has become the new mascot for the Ugly Animal Preservation Society, an organization whose purpose is to preserve endangered ugly animals.

“We’ve needed an ugly face for endangered ugly animals for a long time and I’ve been amazed by the public reaction,” said the Society’s Simon Watt. “For too long cute animals have taken the limelight(风头) but now the blobfish will be a voice for those who always get forgotten.”They hope this new face will help the world know that we need to help preserve the populations of ugly animals too.

【1】The biggest difference between the blobfish and most other fishes is that the blobfish_____ .

A. cannot be eaten by people

B. don’t have a swim bladder

C. only live at high sea levels

D. aren’t active in catching food

【2】What makes the blobfish stay afloat?

A. Their skin. B. Their tail.

C. Their mouth. D. Their swim bladder.

【3】We can learn from what Simon Watt said that _____ .

A. most ugly animals are in danger

B. the population of the blobfish is increasing

C. the blobfish have attracted the public’s attention

D. people knew nothing about the blobfish in the past
