I came across a article about a doctor called lin Qiaozhi on chance. One of her books explained how to cut the death rate from having and caring for babies caught my eye. Then I do some research by raising some question about her. Further reading made me to realize it was hard work and determined as well as her gentle nature which got her into medical school. And what made her succeed was her kindness and consideration. She often went lately at night to deliver a baby for a poor family. I was excited and wanted to carry her career.

4. do –did

5. question—questions

6.to删除

7.determined—determination

9. lately –late

10.carry ^on

【解析】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲了作者偶然看到关于一位医生的文章并被其所吸引,进而深入了解并希望能继续进行她的事业

1.考查冠词。article是以元音音素开头,故将a改为an。

2.考查固定搭配。by chance是固定搭配,表示偶然,故将on改为by。

make…do…是固定用法,故要去掉to。

7.考查名词形式系动词后接表语,与and前面的hard work相对应,此处也应为名词形式,表示努力和决心,故将determined改为determination。

8.考查强调句。It is …that…

I passed my driving test at the fourth attempt. You might think that means I'm not as safe as someone who passed on their first attempt. But would you feel safer with no driver at all? Maybe not, and that's why automotive firms have included driverassist functions in their driverless cars. This allows the human driver to take over if there is a problem.

Google is one producer that has prototype driverless cars. These cars have been newly equipped with autosteering wheels and conventional controls to allow normal driving. But this is just a stage the vision is to have fully automated cars very soon. The director of Google's selfdrive project, Chris Urmson, hopes his 11yearold son will never have to take a driving test. To achieve that, the cars need to be on the roads in five years. He says driverless cars will greatly reduce accidents and traffic jams.

According to Chris, about 1.2 million people are killed on the roads around the world each year. That number is equivalent to a jet falling out of the sky every day. He thinks gradual changes to existing car designs are not enough to deal with the problems. “If we are really going to make changes to our cities, get rid of parking lots, we need selfdrive cars,” he says.

Google's prototypes have covered over a million kilometers on the road. They have also had to deal with unexpected situations, such as a child driving a toy car in the road, and a woman in an electric whelchair chasing a duck. In each case, the car reacted safely.

Some are not convinced. Sven Beiker of Stanford University thinks driverless cars will still need human input in extreme circumstances.

Washington D.C. is No.1

It is best known as a city of monument. In the middle of traffic circles or on street corners, you'll find statues, plaques (匾牌), and simple blocks of marble there. They honor the people who helped shape the US.

And on Oct. 20, Lonely Planet, one of the world's largest travel guides, named Washington D.C. the No.1 city in its list of “Best in Travel 2015”.

“The year 2015 is a fantastic year to visit Washington D.C.,” Tom Hall, editorial director of Lonely Planet, told The Guardian. “The 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's assassination (暗杀) makes this year big for Washington D.C. The famous top hat of America's 16th president and the gun that fired the deadly shot will be on display. Add that to its incredible eats, performing arts and museums. The nation's capital is looking better than ever.”

There are a lot of free museums in the city. When British scientist James Smithson died in 1829, he left a will giving his money to the United States to open a museum at Washington, under the name of the Smithsonian Institution. It has turned out to be a wonderful gift, and the institution now covers 19 museums. And of course, no Washington tour is complete without seeing the White House, the Capitol, and the Supreme Court, which are home to the three pillars (核心) of the

US government. But there is more to explore in the center of the US power. It is a city you can walk across, with wideopen avenues, old neihborhoods, and river views.

And as USA_Today notes, diversity is another reason to “fall in love with the city”. “There is a lot of diversity in Washington D.C., seen in its people, its neighborhoods and its landmarks. 【题目】Nowadays it is common that people are buying more products and services than ever before through the Internet, so do Americans. And experts say the popularity of online sales is likely to spread to other countries. Online sales now represent as much as 10% of all retail sales in the United States. This has led traditional stores to seek new ways to keep their customers loyal.

Taking Lynne for example, she made good use of the Internet. She used the Internet to buy everything she needed for her Wedding and holiday gifts for her husband and daughter. Other than food, 90% of her purchases were made on her home computer. “I find that, by being able to go online, choose the things that I need, and have them delivered to me right at my doorstep, I eliminate all the driving, all the crowds, all the noise of that, and I usually get a better selection.”

There are a lot of people like her. Experts say American online shopping hit records in both November and December.57% of Americans have bought something electronically. Store owners worry that this growing amount of online sales will hurt their business. Cornell University marketing professor Ed Melaughlin says they can keep their customers by selling goods like clothing, which buyers may want to see and try on before purchasing. The stores could also offer things that are difficult to ship. Besides, some stores can please customers by offering to repair electronic products.

Bill Martin is the founder of Shopper Trak. His business helps stores learn about their customers. He said, “There is still a lot of emotion in the buying decision, you know, that takes place. Often you need that last sense of “Boy, this is exactly what I want before you are ready to part with money, and you can't always get that online. It's a rather cold process.”

While e-commerce worries some business owners, the only worry for delivery services is keeping up with the number of packages. UPS manager Dana Kline says her company is very busy at this time of the year.

UPS is so busy that it has filled 55,000 temporary work positions during the holiday season.
