I have been in Limoges for a month now.since living here, I have tried to integrate(融合) into the local community and one way I have found to do this is by following the local rugby team.

I decided to look for information on the local rugby team after the tourism office could not help me.I searched for the club office online and decided to look into it.The following day I went back to the club after speaking with them and decided to get a season ticket for the rest of my stay here.I will now be going to each home game as well as travelling to the away games with the team and the fans.I am sure that it is going to be a great experience during my time abroad here.I will also be travelling through various regions of France so I will be visiting new places throughout the season. There is another team in a town called Brive not so far away who play in the top league in France, but I decided to stay local.I may go and see them with other assistants if possible during our stay.

I witnessed a friendly match on Saturday when they played Stade Dijon in the division below them. The match finished 70-12.After the match, both teams went to the club house to see the Rugby World Cup semi-final between New Zealand and Australia. Both teams respected each others which is something you don’t always see in other sports.I spoke to the president of the club after the game and he told me, “This is a family club.” Hopefully this year will be a good year for Limoges.

Homonym: a word that has the same spelling and the same pronunciation as another world, but a different meaning

Same spelling, different meaning

Imagine, then a situation where two words are spelt and pronounced exactly the same way, but have completely different meanings.Welcome to the world of homonyms.Take, for example, the word ‘fail’ --- it can be a kind of festival, and adjective to describe the color of your hair or how you should play a game.

Don’t take it literally

So how do you know which meaning someone is referring to? --- You don’t, except by the context.Obviously, if someone asks you to ‘give them a hand’, they don’t want you to remove what is at the end of your arm.

What’s in a name?

Sometimes even the context doesn’t help much --- the result can be amusing. These sentences play with the double meaning of a noun:

I used to be a banker, but I lost interest.

Have you heard about the cross-eyed teacher who couldn’t control his pupils?

A small boy swallowed some coins and had to go to hospital. When his grandmother phoned to ask how he was, the nurse said: ‘No change yet’.

More ambiguity

And these examples play with the different meanings of a verb:

I wondered why the ball was getting bigger. Then it hit me.

No one knew she had a dental implant until it came out in a conversation.

A boiled egg in the morning is hard to beat.

Double trouble

And sometimes a word can be a noun and a verb, but have different meanings. Can you work this one out?

Time flies like an arrow.Fruit flies like a banana.

If you like these homonyms, you will be pleased to know that English has plenty more!

However, I told myself that I had to calm down and look after my mum, _7.____I promised to my dad. The moment I got my mum to sleep, I put cold towel on her forehead, found pills in the medicine box, and made some noodles for her. Luckily, she woke up and felt __8.__(good), after taking the pills and the noodles. __9.__her fever was gone relieved and satisfied me a lot. In the next four days, I was taking her body temperature twice a day, ensuring that she was completely well. To our delight, my dad went back home safely and healthily on Saturday. On hearing __10._I had done to my mum, he, as well as my mum, beamed at me and gave me a big thumb. Hearing their praises and seeing bright smiles on their faces, I really felt overjoyed and thrilled. Conceivably, taking care of my parents was, indeed and definitely, my mission and obligation。

Dear Dad,

Today I was at the shopping mall and I spent a lot of time reading the Father's Day cards. They all had a special message that in some way or another reflected how I feel about you.Yet as I selected and read,it occurred to me that not a single card said what I really want to say to you.

You'll soon be 84 years old,Dad,and you and I will have had 55 Father's Days together.I haven't always been with you on Father's Day but I've always been with you in my heart.

You know,Dad,there was a time when we were separated by the generation gap.You stood on one side of the Great Divide and I on the other.

The Father Daughter Duel shifted into high gear ( 档位) when you taught me to drive the old Dodge and I decided I would drive the '54 Chevy whether you liked it or not.The police officer who sent me home, after you reported the Chevy stolen, didn't have much tolerance for a stub?born 16 year old, while you were so tolerant about it,Dad,and I think that was probably what made it the worst night of my life.

Our relationship greatly improved when I married a man you liked, and things really turned around when we began making babies right and left.Somewhere along the line, the generation gap disappeared. I suppose I saw us and our relationship as aging together, rather like a fine wine.

But the strangest thing happened last week.I was at a stop sign and I watched as you turned the corner in your car.It didn't immediately occur to me that it was you because the man driving looked so elderly and fragile behind the wheel of that huge car.It was rather like a slap in the face delivered from out of nowhere.Perhaps I saw your age for the first time that day.

I guess what I'm trying to say,Dad,is what every son and daughter wants to say to their Dad today.Honoring a father on Father's Day is about respect and sharing and acceptance and tolerance and giving and taking. It's about loving someone more than words can say,and it's wishing that never had to end.

I love you,Dad.

Love,

Jenny

Another way to decide whether an animal’s behavior is deliberate is to look for actions that are not normal for that animal.A zoo worker describes how an ape dealt with an enemy.“He slowly stole up behind the other ape, walking on tiptoe. When he got close to his enemy, he pushed him violently in the back, then ran indoors.” Wild apes do not normally walk on tiptoe.___4.___ But looking at the many cases of deliberate trickery in apes, it is impossible to explain them all as simple copying.

When I was a child, I often dreamed of the time when I could leave home and escape to the city. We lived on a farm and, in the winter especially, we were quite cut off from the outside world. As soon as I left school, I packed my bags and moved to the capital. However, I soon discovered that city life has its problems too.

One big disadvantage is money---it costs so much to go out, not to mention basics like food and housing. Another disadvantage is pollution. I suffer from asthma(哮喘), and at times the air is so bad that I am afraid to go outside. Then there is the problem of travelling round. Although I have a car, I seldom use it because of the traffic jams. One choice is to go by bicycle, but that can be quite dangerous.

Of course there are advantages. First, there is so much to do in the city, whatever your tastes in culture or entertainment. Besides, there are wonderful jobs and greater chances of moving to a more important job or position. Finally, if you like shopping, the variety of goods is very surprising---and, what is more, shops are often only a short walk away.

Is life better then, in the city? Perhaps it is, when you are in your teens(十几岁) or twenties. However, as you get older, and especially if you have small children, the peace of the countryside may seem preferable. I certainly hope to move back there soon.

A. He is very old now.

B. He is in good health.

A. express his opinions about way of life

B. describe his life in the countryside

C. show an interest in the outside world

D. persuade the reader to live in the city

4.How is the passage mainly developed?

A. By inferring

B. By comparing

C. By listing examples

D. By giving explanations
