I believed I had perfect life. Because I was about to _________ my high school, and on my way to college, I had great friends and a loving family. There was nothing _________. But I spoke too soon.

After Zach’s death, I found relief in __________. I ate, then I slept, and then I ate again. I couldn’t cry. I could hardly feel anything, and I was numb. I stopped building relationships for fear they would end just as __________ as Zach. Also, I became nervous about any potentially risky situations — driving late at night — but I couldn’t express this fear of life __________ I wanted to be strong for my parents. I saw my parents’ pain __________ than mine on account of losing their son. I didn’t want them to __________ me. I also experienced a lot of __________ , because I was angry about why the sadness had happened to me, and I never escaped from this emotion.

Now, it has been nearly five years since Zach’s death. I don’t ____________ life anymore; I face it bravely. I __________ my friendships and began socializing(交友;交际)more. I even __________ Zach’s story with people around me. Although my new friends have never met him, they know about Zach.

One lesson I learn from losing my brother is never to be _________ to say “I love you.” I love my brother, but it is too late to express it loudly. The last time I remember telling my brother I loved him was when he was dying. Don’t make this _________ like me.

How would you like an easy way to earn $2,500? All you have to do is to sit around and wait for your meals. There’s a catch, however. You have to stay in a chicken cage with a stranger for a whole week. There are no books or television or radio for a whole week. There are no books or television or radio for amusement. You can’t leave until the week is up. And a camera will be recording your every move.

Two people actually took the job. The idea came from Rob Thompson, a video artist. He wanted to make a film about the way animals are treated. His goal was to raise people’s awareness of the living conditions of animals that are raised for food. He decided to pay $5,000 out of his own savings to two people who were willing to live like chickens for a week.

To Rob’s surprise, quite a few people answered his advertisement. He had interviews and selected Eric, a 24-year-old restaurant worker, and Pam, a 27-year-old chemist. The plan was for them to spend seven days together in a chicken cage that was six feet long and three feet wide. A camera would record their experience, which would take place in an art museum.

The week was long and difficult. They slept on a hard wooden floor. They couldn’t stand up without banging their heads. They ate mash(a kind of food for animals) and drink water from a garden hose-pipe(软管). Their only privacy was a toilet surrounded by a curtain. There were no sinks, mirrors, or toothbrushes in the cage. Their only inspiration was the two framed checks that hung on the wall outside the cage. Visitors who came here were warned, “Do not feed the humans.’’

Finally it was over, and Pam and Eric came out of the cage. They had survived the week, and they each had a $2,500 check in their hands. When Rob Thompson opened the cage, Eric came out, changed into clean clothes, and ate a chocolate bar right away. “It’s great for me to be able to stand up.’’he said. Pam just changed her clothes and left. After a week of visitors and reporters watching her, she didn’t want to talk to anyone.

“Listen!” Mr. Lee said seriously at the beginning of his first class, “I will put a lie into each of my classes. Your job is to try and catch me in the Lie of the Day.”

That was really a clever way to fix our attention on the dry and boring subject — geography. Then in the following weeks, we didn't let off every single word of what he was saying in class and challenged(质疑)his lectures. When his class ended with nobody seeing through the lie, Mr. Lee would say, “Ah ha! Each of you has a lie in your notes. Discuss among yourselves what it might be, and I will tell you at the end of this term.”

Mr. Lee’s special style of teaching worked. All of us reviewed and discussed about our notes actively.

One Monday at the end of the term, Mr. Lee listened carefully to what we were questioning for almost ten minutes. Then he finally said, “Do you still remember the first lesson how I said that every lecture has a lie?”

Confused, we said yes.

"Well, that was a real big lie. In fact, all the lectures I’ve given before are completely true. But I am glad you worked so hard. Move on ...”

Hearing this, all eyes in the classroom went wide.

While my knowledge of geography has been forgotten over time, the lessons have stayed with me. "Experts" can be wrong and say things that sound right, so build a habit of evaluating (评估)new information and check it against things you already accept as a fact.

B.it’s easy to forget the knowledge of geography

C.Mr. Lee succeeded drawing the students’ attention

D.the students would never check what the teachers said again

5.The best title of the passage could be ________.

A.A Real Lie B.Learn to Question

C.A Special Teaching Style D.The First Geography Lesson

Long ago,as people got older, there was something wrong with their teeth and it would be very painful. To avoid a toothache, they had their teeth pulled out. Later people learned that cleaning their teeth was important, but they didn’t have toothpaste (牙膏) at that time. They used lemon juice, salt or other things to clean their teeth.

It was only about 100 years ago that someone finally created a mint (薄荷) cream to clean teeth. Not long after that, the toothpaste tube (管子) was invented,so people could squeeze (挤出) the toothpaste right onto the toothbrush! Tooth brushing became popular during the World War I. The U. S. Army gave brushes and toothpaste to all the soldiers, and they learned to brush teeth twice a day. Back then, toothpaste tubes were made of metal;today they’ re made of soft plastic and are much easier to use!

Today there are plenty of toothpaste choices:lots of colors and flavors (口味) to choose from, and some kinds of toothpaste are made just for children. When you’re choosing a kind of toothpaste, make sure it has fluoride (氟化物). Fluoride makes your teeth strong and healthy. When you brush, you don’t need a lot of toothpaste:just squeeze out a bit.
