Denny Crook was a famous photographer. He traveled all over the world, taking pictures for magazines and newspapers, and won many prizes.
¡°I¡¯ll do ___1___ to get a good photo,¡± he often said. ¡°I¡¯ll go anywhere at any time, even if it is dangerous.¡±And he told the truth. He had photos of earthquakes, forest fires, floods and even wars. If something interesting happened, Denny went to   2  it.
His wife often asked him to take her with him, but he always  3  .¡± I¡¯ll travel for my work, not for   4 ,¡± he told her, ¡°You won¡¯t enjoy yourself, and I won¡¯t have   5   to look after you. Sometimes there¡¯s not even anywhere to   6  , and I have to sleep outside. I often don¡¯t have a good   7  or a bath for days. You won¡¯t like it.¡±
¡°Denny, I¡¯m not a child,¡± his wife didn¡¯t   8  , ¡°I can look after myself. Please take me with you the next time you go overseas.¡±
Denny did not say anything, but he   9  about it, and when he was asked to go to Africa he said to his wife, ¡°You can come to Africa with me if you want to. I¡¯ll go to take photos of wild   10  there. It should be interesting and not too uncomfortable.¡± His wife was very   11  .
When they got to Africa, the first day she had a very enjoyable time. The next day Denny went   12   to find some lions to photo. His wife went with him, but soon they became separated (·Ö¿ª). She walked down one path while he walked down the other.
Suddenly, Denny heard her   13  . He ran back and saw her running toward him. A huge lion was chasing her.
Quickly Denny took his camera out of its case and   14   it at his wife and the lion. Then he shouted, ¡°   15  , woman! I can¡¯t get you both in the picture!¡±

¡°What is success?¡± Mr Gruber asked his 6th grade business class. It was his opening conversation for the first class of the term.
¡°Success is riding in a sweet car, watching an 80-inch TV, and living in a place with at least twelve rooms.¡± One student answered, earning laughs from all the students.
Mr Gruber smiled, but shook his head. ¡°Tom, that is excess(¹ýÁ¿). That is not success.¡±
¡°How about being able to provide for your family?¡± A blonde girl named Sandy in the front suggested as an answer.
¡°Now we¡¯re getting closer,¡± Mr Gruber smiled, ¡°but try thinking about what you need and what you want.¡±
¡°Getting everything you want.¡± Tom shouted out an answer again, trying for more laughs.
Mr Gruber sighed. ¡° I believe we¡¯ve already talked about excess versus(Óë¡±È½Ï) success.¡±
¡°Getting everything you need, but some of what you want?¡± James, sitting in the back wondered aloud.
¡°Quite right!¡± Mr Gruber clapped. ¡°Success is getting everything you need and some of what you want. The more you get that you want, the more successful you are. You do reach a point where you are living in excess, though.¡±
¡°What does this have to do with business?¡± Tom asked. It seemed if it wasn¡¯t funny, he wasn¡¯t happy.
¡°Well, Tom, think of it this way: the point of business is to make a living to support your family. Once you have properly seen to (È·±£) their needs, you can then see to getting the extras that you want.¡±
¡°What if I don¡¯t have a family?¡± he continued to be difficult.
¡°Then you have to provide for yourself, a family of one.¡±
¡°He has goldfish to think about!¡± Peter, Tom¡¯s friend, shouted out.
¡°Then he needs to provide for a family of one with a fishbowl.¡± Mr. Gruber corrected himself.
Tom nodded, satisfied with that answer.
¡°So in the next nine weeks, we¡¯re going to study basic business situations, like having a checking account and understanding credit cards.¡±
Tom rubbed his hands together excitedly. ¡°When do we get to start spending?¡±
¡°You already are, Tom. You¡¯re spending time with us!¡± Mr. Gruber laughed. ¡°Now, let¡¯s see what you guys know about credit cards¡¡±

What is your zodiac£¨ÉúФ£© animal? According to the Chinese lunar calendar£¨Å©Àú£©, 12 animals mark 12 different years. It is the basis of the Chinese zodiac. Nowadays, Chinese zodiac animals have worldwide fame and are increasingly popular among western people.
The zodiac is an important part of Chinese culture. People believe that the characteristics of a zodiac animal influence the personality of every person born in that year. For example, people born in the Year of the Tiger are considered powerful and brave.
Zodiac animals also have some social functions. When people think it is not proper to ask: ¡°How old are you¡±, they may change their question to ¡°What is your zodiac animal?¡± With this question, you can figure out roughly which year someone was born and the person¡¯s age.
Zodiac animals are not special to China. Many countries share a similar zodiac culture with China. For example, in the Japanese Zodiac, a wild boar£¨Ò°Öí£©takes the place of a pig and the Vietnamese£¨Ô½Äϵģ©zodiac has a cat instead of a rabbit.
But have you ever wondered how these 12 animals were chosen to represent each year? According to legend, the Jade Emperor£¨Óñ»Ê´óµÛ£©invited all the animals to join him for Chinese New Year. Only 12 animals went to see him. As a reward he named a year after each one in the order they arrived. The ox would have been the first to arrive, but the rat sat on his back and jumped off just before they arrived to come in first place.

The owner of a missing cat is asking for help. ¡°My baby has been missing for over a month now, and I want him back so badly,¡± said Mrs. Brown, a 56-year-old woman. Mrs. Brown lives by herself in a trailer park near Clovis. She said that Clyde, her 7-year-old cat, didn¡¯t come home for dinner more than a month ago. The next morning he didn¡¯t appear for breakfast either. After Clyde missed an extra-special lunch, she called the police.
When the policeman asked her to describe Clyde, she told him that Clyde had beautiful green eyes, had all his teeth but was missing half of his left ear, and was seven years old and completely white. She then told the officer that Clyde was about a foot high.
A bell went off. ¡°Is Clyde your child or your pet?¡± the officer suspiciously asked. ¡°Well, he¡¯s my cat, of course,¡± Mrs. Brown replied. ¡°Lady, you¡¯re supposed to report missing PERSONS, not missing CATS,¡± said the sppeadeotoned policeman. ¡°Well, who can I report this to?¡± she asked. ¡°You can¡¯t. You have to ask around your neighborhood or put up flyers,¡± replied the officer.
Mrs. Brown figured that a billboard would work a lot better than an 8¡±x11¡± piece of paper on a telephone pole. There was an empty billboard at the end of her street just off the interstate£¨Öݼʹ«Â·£© highway. The billboard had a phone number on it. She called that number, and they told her they could blow up a picture of Clyde (from Mrs. Brown¡¯s family album) and put it on the billboard for all to see.
¡°But how can people see it when they whiz£¨¿ìËÙÒƶ¯£© by on the interstate?¡± she asked. ¡°Oh, don¡¯t worry, ma¡¯am, they only whiz by between 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. The rest of the day, the interstate is so full of commuters that no one moves.¡± They told her it would cost only $3,000 a month. So she took most of the money out of her savings account and rented the billboard for a month.
The month has passed, but Clyde has not appeared. Because she has almost no money in savings, Mrs. Brown called the local newspaper to see if anyone could help her rent the billboard for just one more month. She is waiting but, so far, no one has stepped forward.

Long long ago, a young man found a spring of delicious clean water while he was going through the desert. He brought some back to the oldest man in his village, who had been his teacher before. After a four-day journey he sent the water to the old man who took a deep drink, smiled warmly and thanked his student for the sweet water. The young man returned to his village happily. The next day, the teacher let another student taste the water. He spat it out, saying it was awful. It went bad because it had stayed in the old leather container(Ƥ¸ïÈÝÆ÷) for so many days in such hot weather. The student asked his teacher why he pretended(¼Ù×°) to like the awful water. The teacher replied, "You only tasted the water. I tasted the gift. The water was simply the container for love and kindness. And nothing could be sweeter than these."
¡¡¡¡I think we understand this lesson best when we receive small gifts of love from very young kids. Whether it's a slice of bread or a piece of colored paper, the natural and right response(·´Ó¦) is to show our thanks and happiness because we get love from the gift.
¡¡ To show our thanks doesn't always come naturally. Unfortunately, most children and many adults only see the thing itself. They never feel the meaning of the thing. We should tell ourselves and teach our children about showing thanks and happiness to the persons who give the gifts from their hearts because gifts from the heart are really gifts of the heart.

D£®We usually show our thanks and happiness naturally.
СÌâ5:What does the writer want to tell us?

Born in 1954 in Taiwan, Ang Lee£¨Àî°²£©has become one of today's greatest filmmakers. Ang graduated from the National Taiwan College of Arts in 1975. Later on, he went to the USA. for further study on art. And he got a Master Degree in Film Production at New York University.
During Ang¡¯s film career, he has made a lot of successful films and honored himself with many international awards. Early in 1993, Ang¡¯s film The Wedding Banquet (ϲÑç)won a Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, which drew the whole world¡¯s attention to this Chinese director. In the following years, Ang¡¯s talent got more brilliant. At the beginning of 2000, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon£¨Wo Hu Cang Long£©, a kongfu film directed by Ang Lee, won Best Foreign Language Film at the 73rd Academy Awards(°Â˹¿¨½ðÏñ½±).
