In western countries, more and more foods have additives in them. What are additives? Additives are chemicals which are put into foods to give them color and taste, to stop them going bad and so on. But doctors say that some additives can be very bad for our health.
Now let’s look at how additives can be bad for our health. For example, a little English girl called Sally Jones is two years old and quite ordinary (普通的). But when she was younger, she never went to sleep at night. She never got tired. Her parents were very worried. Finally, Sally’s parents took her to a special doctor.
The doctor said that she must never eat food with additives in it. He was sure that the additives had a very bad effect on her body, and made her too active. He was quite correct. As soon as Sally started to eat foods with no additives, she began to sleep well at night.
Now she is the same as other little girls, except that she can’t eat many foods that other children love, such as ice-creams, because they have additives in them.

Light travels at a speed which is about a million times faster than the speed of sound. You can get some idea of this difference by watching the start of a race. If you stand some distance(距离) away from the starter, you can see smoke from his gun before the sound reaches your ears.
This great speed of light produces some strange facts. Sunlight(太阳光) takes about 8 minutes to reach us. If you look at the light of the moon tonight, remember that the light rays left the moon 1.3 seconds before they reached you. The nearest star is so far away that the light that you can see from it tonight started to travel towards you four years ago at a speed of nearly 2 million km. per minute. In some cases, the light from one of tonight’s stars had started on its journey to you before you were born.
Thus, if we want to be honest, we can’t say, “The stars are shining tonight.” We have to say instead, “The stars look pretty. They were shining four years ago, but their light has only just reached the earth.”

In most parts of the world, many students help their schools make less pollution(污染). They join "environment(环境)club". In an environment club, people work together to make our environment clean.

No-car day. On a no- car day, nobody comes to school in a car- not the students and not the teachers. cars give pollution to our air, so remember: walk,
Turn off the water! Did you know that toilets(抽水马桶)can waste twenty to forty tons(吨)of water an hour? In a year, that would fill a small river! In the environment clubs, students mend those broken toilets.

The Post Hotel in Austria is clean but the price is high. If you go to a fast food restaurant, you will probably see a lot of teenagers. Today, many teenagers are overweight, and some of this is because of their bad eating habits. Most teenagers love food with a lot of fat, oil, salt, and sugar. People often call this kind of food “junk food".?
But bad eating habits go beyond fast food. We find many teenagers eat unhealthily. Some don't have breakfast before they go to school。.During the day, some don't have a proper meal for lunch. In a recent survey at one school, scientists found that over two thirds of the students didn't follow a healthy diet. They didn't like vegetables, and many of them didn't like to eat fruits. They preferred(更喜欢) to eat food with a lot of salt, sugar, or fat.
Parents today also worry about their children's diet. Some doctors give the following advice:
