Long ago, Bluebird’s feathers were the colour of dust. She did not like her ugly colour. She was attracted by the colour of the lake near her home. It was as blue as the sky after a storm. Bluebird wanted to be the colour of that beautiful lake very much. Flapping her wings one morning, Bluebird flew from her tree to the blue lake. Then she bathed in the water three times. After each bath, she sang, “Blue water. Still water. I went in. I am blue.” Bluebird repeated this every morning. On the third day, she came out of the lake with beautiful blue feathers.
Now Coyote was a trickster(骗子)—and hungry too. He stayed behind Bluebird’s tree for a long time every day and watched her go to the lake. He pretended(伪装) to be interested in everything she did. He wanted Bluebird for lunch, but he was afraid of the blue water. On the third morning, Coyote saw Bluebird come out of the lake with beautiful blue feathers. Impressed, he sat next to Bluebird’s tree and waited for her. When she returned, he asked, “How did you get blue feathers? I want to be blue like the mountains too.” Bluebird didn’t believe Coyote, but she taught him how to bathe three times each morning and how to sing her song. Coyote did what she said, and after three days of bathing in the lake, his white fur turned deep blue.
Convinced(确信的) that blue fur was even more beautiful than blue feathers, Coyote forgot all about being hungry. He ran as fast as he could to the top of the hill. Standing on his back legs, he raised his front legs off the ground and howled. But Coyote slipped(滑倒) and rolled down the hill. He couldn’t stop himself, and the dust and dirt covered his new blue fur. He rolled and rolled until he hit into Bluebird’s tree heavily. No matter how much he tried, foolish Coyote could not shake the dust from his fur. And so the fur of all coyotes had the dull colour of dust to this very day.

The Bermuda Triangle(百慕大三角)is in the Atlantic Ocean, near Florida in the USA. During the past 60 years, more than 1,000 seamen in ships and pilots in planes have lost their lives. It is known as “The Triangle of Death”for its strange seawater and sudden storms. What’s the strangest is the light of the seawater, which looks so bright that it can be seen even from an outer spaceship.
At 2:00p.m. on Dec. 5, 1945, five planes took off in fine weather from the airport of Florida, on a training task. Two hours later, the leader in the sky radioed that he was “completely lost”. Then there was silence. Another plane was sent to look for them and also disappeared.
One of the largest ship that had disappeared in the triangle was an American coal ship, 500meters long. The weather was good, and there were no messages for help before it was “gone”. No broken ships or dead bodies have been found so far.
No one is able to tell how all these accidents have happened. A group of Japanese scientists were there to see what it was really like in 1995, but nothing has been heard of them ever since.

Every year thousands of people get hurt or die when they are crossing the road. Most of these people are old people and children. Old people often get hurt or die because they can’t see or hear very well. Children usually meet with accidents because of their carelessness. They forgot to look and listen before they cross the road.
How can we lessen (减少) traffic accidents? All of us must obey the traffic rules. For the drivers, they shouldn’t drive too fast. If they drive too fast, it will be very difficult to stop the cars in a very short time. For the pedestrians (行人), it’s very important to be careful when they are walking on the road. Therefore, when we walk across the road, we must try to walk along the pavements(人行道). We must stop and look both ways before crossing the road. Look left first, next look right, then look left again. Only when we are sure that the road is clear, we can cross it. The right way to cross the road is to walk quickly. It’s not safe to run. If people run across the road, they may fall down. Teens(青少年) should try to help children, old people or blind people to cross the road, and never play in the street.

Have you been asked for money by some disabled beggars (乞丐) while you’re enjoying shopping? Do you have any pity on them who are so poor and lonely or do you just feel afraid of their terrible shapes? As one of the most special groups, disabled people’s living conditions — not only their material (物质的) conditions, but their mental (精神的) world — really need improvement.
The treatment for disabled people should go like this: First, don’t look down upon them. Don’t be afraid of looking at the terrible shapes of the disabled. Try to treat them equally. Because they are a part of the society (社会),we can?t discard (抛弃) them. The second is to help them as much as we could. If you can be a volunteer and do some work for the disabled people, that would be very nice. Once there was an island in the sea. All the feelings lived on the island: Happiness, Sadness, Love, and all of the others.
One day, all the feelings knew that the island would sink (沉没), so they prepared to       . But Love decided to stay. When the island was         sinking, Love asked for help.
First, Love asked Richness, “Can you        me with you?” Richness answered. “No. There is a lot of        in my boat. There is no place for you.” Love asked Vanity (虚荣), “Please help me!” “I can’t help you, Love. You are all wet and might make my boat      .” Vanity answered. Millions of British people have ditched the traditional “thank you” and took the place of it with the less formal “cheers”, according to a survey.
Although the common person will say “thank you” nearly 5,000 times a year, one in three are more likely to add a “cheers” or “ta” where it’s needed to show they are fashionable.
One in twenty now say “nice one” instead, while the younger are more likely to offer a “cool” than a “thank you”.
“Merci”, “fab” and even “gracias” were also listed as common phrases to use, as “much appreciated(感激)”.
One in twenty who took part in the survey of 2,000 people by the Food Network UK for Thank You Day, which is marked on November 24, 2011, said a formal “thank you” was now not often needed in everyday conversation. More than one in ten adults said they regularly won’t say thank you if they are in a bad mood. Most people stated that saying thank you was something that their parents trained them. A huge 70 percent of those questioned will say thank you to a person’s face without even meaning it, while one fifth avoid(避免)saying it when they know they should.
It seems our friends and family get the stress of our bad manners. Half of them admit (承认) they’re not good at thanking those closest to them. Many of them explain that they don’t say thank you because their family “already know I’m grateful”.
When spoken words won’t do, it falls to a nice text to do the job for most people.
One third will still send a handwritten thank-you note---but 45 percent admit it’s been more than six months since they tried to send one.
A quarter of British people say “thank you” with food, with 23 percent cooking a meal to show their appreciation to someone. Another 15 percent bake a cake.
It follows that 85 percent of people will be angry because of not getting the gratitude (感激)
they feel they should receive.

The number of rural(乡村的) left-behind children under 17 years old has increased to 61.02 million, according to a report. These children’s parents leave them with their grandparents or other family members in order to make money in cities.
Sichuan Province and Henan Province have the highest percentage of rural left-behind children. Together with Anhui Province, Guangdong Province and Hunan Province, these five provinces have 43.64% of the country’s rural left-behind children, the report says.
The report finds that left-behind children are mainly in the central and western provinces. But the developed eastern areas also face similar problems, the report says. Guangdong Province has the most left-behind children, with 4.34 million, followed by Zhejiang Province, Jiangsu Province, Shanghai and Beijing.
“What I’m worried about most is the schooling of my child, as I have no time to help her with her homework.” Said An Baiyou, a truck driver from Shangdong Province, who has been leaving his 10-year-old daughter with his parents while driving trucks in other provinces. “However, to make money or to take care of the child, you can only choose one side.”
Wang Zhenyao, the president of Beijing Normal University Institue of Public Welfare, says that if the left-behind children problem can’t be solved, it will affect the nation’s future.
Compared with those who live with their parents, left-behind children need more care and protection. The country should think about ways to attract the rural workers in cities to return and work in their hometown to improve the development of these places.”
In addition, it is important to set up laws to protect the basic rights of young people, especially those with illnesses or only one parent.
