Paul and I live in the same building. His room is on the sixth floor but mine is on the fifth. He’s very careless and sometimes he gets into trouble.
Last Friday afternoon the young man and his friends went to spend the weekend on a wild island. They could swim, fish, play the guitar and sleep in the quiet place at night. They enjoyed themselves there and could do anything they wanted. On the third morning they decided to get back to the land. But their boat hit a rock and soon went down. With the villagers’ help, they swam to the bank. Luckily none of them was hurt. They took a taxi and half an hour later they arrived at our town, but it was two in the night. The young man was hungry and thirsty. He wished to get home as soon as possible. Something was wrong with the lift, so he had to go up the stairs. He stopped by my door and brought out a key. Of course he could not open the door. Half an hour passed but he failed. He became angry and shouted, “I’ll cut you down with a knife!”
The noise woke me up and I opened the door. I understood at once what was happening and said, “You’re trying to open a wrong door, Paul!”

Once upon a time, there was a spider(蜘蛛) with the name Anansi. He knew that he was clever but he also knew he wasn't wise. He didn’t like this, but he did not know what to do. One day he had an idea. He went around the village with a basket and asked each person to give him some of their wisdom. All people laughed at Anansi because they knew that he needed wisdom the most. So each person put a bit in his basket and wished him good luck.
Soon his basket was full, but Anansi was worried that his neighbors might be jealous of his wisdom and take it from him. He decided to hide it at the top of a tall tree. When he had tied the basket to the front part of his body,he tried to climb the tree, but it was too difficult. He tried again and again without success.
Then his youngest son walked by. “What are you doing, father?” he asked and Anansi told him.“Why don’t you carry the basket on your back instead?” his son said.
Anansi put the basket on his back and climbed the tree easily, but he wasn’t happy.“1 walked all over the village and collected so much wisdom that I am the wisest person ever, but my baby son is still wiser than me. A Nobel Prize is considered by most people one of the highest international honours(荣誉) a person can receive. As you know, the prizes were started by a Swede called Alfred Nobel. He was born in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Alfred Nobel was a great scientist. He made two important inventions, and so he became very rich. Although he was rich, Nobel was not a happy man. He never married or had children. Also, he was a sick man during his large part of life. When he died at the age of 63, he left a fund of $9,000,000. The money was to be used in giving prizes to those who made great achievements in physics, chemistry(化学), medicine and literature(文学), and for world peace.
The first Nobel Prizes were given on December 10, 1901, five years after Nobel’s death. Since then many famous people from all over the world have been given Nobel Prizes for their achievements.
Each prize has three parts. The first part is a gold medal. Second, a winner of a Nobel Prize is given a certificate saying that he has been given the prize. The third part of the prize is a large amount of money-about $40,000.
Often a prize is given to just one person, but not always. Sometimes a prize is shared. It may be given to two or more people who have worked together. It is also sometimes true that a prize is not given at all if there is no great achievement. In 1972, for example, no Nobel Peace Prize was given.

I was feeling a little blue because my mother had lost her job.
One day, while I was   on the street, I heard the piano music and singing rising above the noise of the people. I walked more slowly to      where it was coming from. Then I saw a young lady sitting at a piano.
She was singing songs about love,      yourself and keeping on trying. The way she was singing made me a little comfortable. I stood there     ,watching her playing on such a crowded New York square. I thought that she must be     enough to perform in front of so many people.
She noticed me. I walked over and told her how good her       sounded. “Thank you.” she said.
“I have been going through a hard time recently,     you’ve made me hopeful again.” I said to her.
“I’m glad that I could help,” she replied, “Why are you so   ?”
“Well, my mom has lost her job, and I’m not sure what to do …”
“Did you noticed the    you were walking? Your head was down.” she said. “Don’t be upset, because      comes in different ways and if your head is down, you might not see it. You should       more… lift your head up.”
I looked      her, amazed at how she was encouraging me. “   are you playing the piano here?” I asked her with a smile.
She     that she saw a lot of unhappy people in the world and she tried to cheer       up by playing music.
I smiled a little wilder, realizing that no difficulties could stop me from going on.
