Almost every one knows the meanings of Mr, Mrs, and Miss. Mr is used before the name of men. Mrs is for married (已婚的) women. Miss is for single (独身的) women. But what is Ms?

For some time, business men in the United States have used Ms before a woman's name when they don't know whether the woman is married or not. Today, however, many women prefer the word Ms to Mrs and Miss. The word Mr does not tell us whether or not a man is married. Many women think this is an advantage (优势) for men. They want to be equal (平等) to men in this way. These women think that it is not important for people to know if they are married or not.

There are many problems with Ms, however. Not all women like it. Some like the older ways of doing things. Some find it difficult to pronounce (Ms sounds like [miz]).Generally, young women like it better than older women do. It is difficult to know whether or not Ms will be used by more American women in the future (未来), what do you think of this change?

Basket is still a young game. It's over a hundred years old. In the winter of 1891, a certain college (学院) was having some trouble with its boy students. The weather was bad and the students had to stay indoors. As they couldn't play outdoors, they were unhappy, and some even got into fights time to time.

Some of the teachers at the college asked Dr Naismith to invent a game so that the students might have something to play at. It was not easy to invent such a game because it had to be played indoors, and the court (院子) was not very large.

Dr Naismith thought for a few days and invented a kind of ball game. It was a fast, wonderful game with much moving and passing of the ball. It was played between two teams. To make a score, the ball had to be thrown into the basket ten feet above the floor on the wall. At each end of the court there was such a basket. All around the world, people drink tea. But tea does not mean the same thing to everyone. In different countries people have very different ideas about drinking tea.

In China, for example, tea is always served when people get together. The Chinese drink it at any time of the day at homes or in teahouse. They prefer their tea plain, with nothing else in it.

Tea is also important in Japan. The Japanese have a special way of serving tea called a tea ceremony (仪式). It is very old and full of meaning. Everything must be done in a special way in the ceremony. There is even a special room for it in Japanese homes.

Another tea-drink country is England. In England, the late afternoon is “ teatime”. Almost everyone has a cup of tea then. The English usually make tea in a tea pot and drink it with cream and sugar. They also eat cakes, cookies and little sandwiches at teatime.

In the United States people drink tea mostly for breakfast or after meals. Americans usually use tea bags to make their tea. Tea bags are faster and easier than making tea in teapots. In the summer, many Americans drink cold tea----“ iced tea”. Sometimes they drink iced tea from cans, like soda.
