The first time I saw Jim Wooten I really understood him. He was a great TV news reporter. When he was reporting in Rwanda, one heartbreaking moment made a deep impression on me. When the camera showed all of the children who were dying, suffered from terrible diseases, Jim ended his piece by saying that when he got home, the first thing he was going to do was to put his arms around his own children. Then I realized that he was different, that he didn’t fall into any of the modern television-news tricks, that he was not giving us any awful, artificial(假的) television-journalist reports out of(出于) pity. Instead, I was watching a real reporter with a gift(天赋) for both words and slight differences.

Then I read his book, We Are All the Same, about his friendship with Xolani Nkosi, a South African boy who became the international spokesman for AIDS(艾滋病). It is about the friendship between Wooten and a black child who was ten years old and already dying of AIDS. It is also a book about a great teacher and his student. But the teacher-the one with real wisdom and understanding about life-is the little boy, not the journalist. And, finally, it’s about a love story of Gail Johnson, Nkosi’s white mother who does her best to save the boy, and their love for each other. When reading the book, I felt touched from time to time.

Middle school days are both fun and busy. Students spend their days in class, listening to the interesting and        boring words of the teacher. They spend the short breaks running, playing and shouting happily        going back to the classroom again. But        should students spend their free time outside school?
In Western countries, it is ordinary for students to have a part-time job after school and at weekends. Students can make their own money and learn more about the “        world”. They enjoy the independence(独立) and(of course) money, and parents enjoy the quiet house.        , it seems that, in China, parents        so much about their children’s studies that they prefer to see their children        most of their free time studying and preparing for all those exams. It is natural for        to feel that way in China, but I believe the answer lies in balance. Sometimes, western school children work long hours after school to make money, so they become too tired to listen in class or have no time for homework. But Chinese students spend        much time on their studies that other things become3 less important.
So, find a good and healthy balance! If you have a part-time job and you feel        , your parents will also be happy because you’re spending the money you make and not theirs!

The Spring Festival is celebrated not only in China but also in other parts of the world. The traditional holiday is the most important to Chinese both at home and abroad.
United Kingdom
Celebrations for the Spring Festival in the UK started in 1980, with the first evening party held in 2002. Every new year, people get together and have a lot of activities. They sing songs, dance to music, share photos with friends or enjoy films in a cinema.
United States
The Spring Festival has become a key time for Chinese living or working in the US. They join in a large evening party to welcome the traditional new year. It is a good chance for people to build a circle of friends and feel that they are not alone because they share the same culture and values.
Australia
The Chinese new year will be welcomed with three weeks of celebrations across Australia. Many people come to Sydney’s Chinatown or Little Bourke in Melbourne. They enjoy fireworks, lion dances, dragon boat and many other traditional activities. The celebrations are also a bridge towards better understanding between Chinese and non-Chinese.
Singapore
The family dinner on new year’s eve is an important tradition for Chinese whether they were born in Singapore or moved there from China. They place traditional food on a table as an act of remembering their past. Then the whole family enjoy their dinner together. They usually hold it at home because having it in a restaurant takes away the meaning of the tradition.

The one-child policy has been carried out for about 20 years .Most Chinese families have only one child. By the year 2008,the number of only children in China had already been 330 million ,which was about the population of the United States .In the next twenty years ,the only-child generation (一代人) will become the main builders of our society .No one knows how much he or she will change the world .
Only children in families often receive the best care, sometimes ,even get a lot of indulgence .Parents always try their best to satisfy their children’s needs .Those children, who are called “little emperors” ,are in danger of too much love .
However these kids often fell lonely because neither their parents nor their classmates can take the place of a brother or a sister.
It seems that only children are still not ready to do their duty .some elder only children have already graduated from college .But they still depend on their parents .They need a longer time to change for their jobs, because they were brought up in a safe environment. When their parents get older, a couple of only children will have four parents and even more grandparents to look after. It will surely be the biggest problem if they don’t well prepare to face it.
