Peter kept his eyes on the grounds. He felt like there was a heavy weight on his shoulders as he walked home alone. It was the       day of his life. His      would not stop thinking about what happened only just an hour ago on the soccer field. How could he have missed scoring that goal? He had let his whole team down.     stupid mistake made him angry. His team had lost the game because of him. He was really worried that his coach might kick him off the team.
he walked through the door, his father asked, “ What’s wrong, son?” Peter’s feeling were        all over his face. “I lost the game,” Peter replied. Then he went into his room         a       another word. Ten minutes later, Peter heard his father knocking on his bedroom door. He opened the door to let him in.
“Look, Peter. I don’t know what happened. But whatever it was, don’t be too       on yourself.”
“I lost the game, Dad. I      my team. They’ll      never let me play again.”
“Soccer is about team     . You’re not the only reason your team lost. If you have a good team, you should support each other. Besides, winning or losing is only half the game.         half is learning how to communicate with your teammates and learning from your mistakes.
Peter didn’t say anything, but what his father said made him think carefully.
The next day, Peter went to soccer practice with         rather than fear in his heart. “Hey, guys” he said to his teammates. “I’m really sorry about yesterday. We were so        to winning that game. But I think if we     to pull together, we’re going to win the next one.”
To his surprise and relief, his teammates all nodded in agreement.
“Yeah,” they said, “don’t worry about it. It’s never just one person’s fault. We should think about                we can do better next time.”
Peter smiled. It made him feel lucky to know that he was on a winning team.

科I am a mother of three and have recently completed my college degree. The last class I had to take was sociology(社会学). The teacher was really great. The class was asked to go out and smile at three people.
I am a very       person and thought this would be a piece of cake. Soon after, my husband, youngest son and I went out to McDonald’s. We were standing in line, waiting to be       , when all of a sudden everyone around us began to     away, and then even my husband did.
As I turned around I smelled a terrible “dirty body” smell, and there standing behind me were two poor        men. As I looked down at the short gentleman, he was “     ”. His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God’s Light as he searched for acceptance. He said, “Good day.” as he counted the few       he had been holding.
The young lady at the counter(柜台) asked him what they       . He said, “Coffee is all Miss.” because that was all they could afford. He just needed to be warm.
Then I really        it—the compulsion(冲动) was so great that I almost      out and hugged the little man with the blue eyes.
That is when I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me, judging my every action. I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give        two more breakfast meals on two plates.
I then picked up the plates and walked around the counter to the             that the men had chosen as a resting place. I put the plates on the table and laid my hand on the  blue-eyed gentleman’s        hand. He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, “Thank you.”
I graduated with one of the biggest lessons I would ever learn:acceptance without condition.

Mike Myers is a teacher at Chauncey Rose High School in Terre Haute, Indiana.  Last year, he taught his students about the world’s rain forests.  They learned that rain forests are important because the plants and animals of the rain forest give us food, wood, and medicine.
Destruction of the world’s rain forests is a serious problem.  Unluckily, rain forests are disappearing at a rate of 80 acres per minute!  As part of a class project, Myers’ students bought three acres of rain forest in Central America.  They paid $25 per acre.  The students hope that the land they bought will be protected and not destroyed. The students became so interested in rain forests that they decided to get a closer look at a real rain forest.
So last June, Myers and four of his students took a boat ride down a river.  They saw alligators and crocodiles.  In the middle of the week, a guide took Myers and his students into the rain forest.  “The monkeys were not happy that we were in their forest.  They broke small branches off the trees and threw them at e us,” one of the students said, “It was a great learning experience for all of us,” said Myers.
Each student chose something specific about Costa Rica to study involving the plants, animals, food, and culture.  During the last few days the group had time to do fun activities.  They went whitewater rafting and horseback riding, and visited Costa Rica’s active volcano.
Myers hopes to make the trip every year with a different group of kids.

It was a cold winter afternoon before Christmas. My parents and I sat on the bench in Washington, D.C.’Union Station, waiting for the train. Inside the waiting hall were many people.
A boy sat nearby. His worn jacket, pale face, dirty hands all seemed to tell me that he was homeless.
“He must be cold and hungry. Maybe I should help him,” I said to myself.
Just at that moment, a well-dressed young couple walked towards him.
“Excuse me,” the man bent down. “My wife and I bought two meal boxes but one was enough for us. We hate to waste good food. Can you help us out and put this to use?” he handed the boy a meal box.
The boy thanked them and opened the box with joy and care. Suddenly he stopped. In the direction to which he looked, I saw an old man in rags-in a worn sweater, worn trousers and open shoes, entering the hall.
Putting the meal box aside, the boy stood and helped the old to his seat. He took off his jacket and covered it on the old man’s shoulders, saying, “A gentleman brought me this warm meal but I just finished eating. I hate to waste good food. Can you help me out?” He placed the still-warm meal box in the old man’s hands without waiting for an answer.
“Sure, son, but if only you share that sandwich with me. It’s too much for a man at my age. ”
We were all touched. Dad went away and soon returned with cups of hot chocolate and a big pizza. Mum and dad went up to those rags, “Excuse me…”

Say you just got a box of chocolate. Which piece do you pick first?
A man has studied people’s choices. He says that they tell us something about the person. Did you choose a round piece? You are a person who likes to go to the party. Did you choose an oval(椭圆形)shape? You are a person who likes to make things. Picking a square shows something else. The person is honest and you can depend on him or her.
