Sinking of the Titanic

The great ship, the Titanic, sailed for New York from Southampton on April 10th, 1912. She was ¡¡26 ¡¡1316 passengers and a crew (´¬Ô±) of 891. At that time, however, she was not only the largest ¡¡27 ¡¡that had ever been built, but was considered to be unsinkable, ¡¡28 ¡¡she had 16 watertight compartments (ÃÜ·â²Õ). Even ¡¡29 ¡¡two of these were flooded, she would still be able to float. The ¡¡30 ¡¡sinking of this great ship will always be remembered, for she went down on her first voyage (º½³Ì) with a ¡¡31 ¡¡loss of life.

Four days after ¡¡32 ¡¡out, while the Titanic was sailing ¡¡33 ¡¡the icy waters of the North Atlantic, a huge iceberg was suddenly ¡¡34 . After the alarm had been given, the great ship turned sharply to ¡¡35 ¡¡a direct hit. The Titanic turned just ¡¡36 ¡¡time, narrowly missing the big wall of ice which rose over 100 feet out of the water beside her. Suddenly there was a sound from ¡¡37 , and the captain went down to see ¡¡38 ¡¡had happened. The noise had been so weak that ¡¡39 ¡¡thought the ship had been damaged. Below, the captain realized, to his ¡¡40 , that the Titanic was ¡¡41 ¡¡rapidly, for five of the sixteen watertight compartments had already been flooded! The ¡¡42 ¡¡to abandon the ship was given ¡¡43 ¡¡hundreds of people jumped into the icy water. As there were not enough ¡¡44 ¡¡for everybody, 1,500 people ¡¡45¡¡ .
