Each year, thousands of Chinese middle school students go to study in foreign countries such as the US, the UK, Australia and Japan.
“Chinese children hope very much to go abroad to get a 1 view of the world,” said Chen Yi, a Chinese writer who 2 in the US for 16 years. In a talk Chen told more than 300 parents and their children that 3 in foreign countries can be hard for young people.“They have to 4 a culture shock and language problems.”
5 , these are not always the most difficult things. To most 6 , looking after themselves when 7 alone in a foreign country is a big 8 .
Zhang Jia, a 16-year-old student 9 the high school in Melbourne, Australia, last October. To his surprise, his teachers there hardly 10 students to study. And usually there 11 homework.
“ 12 these education systems, we have more 13 time and more space for thinking,” said Zhang.“But if you don’t know how to 14 your time and money, you will not have 15 .” Some of his friends spent their whole year’s 16 in the first two months of the term, and they had to ask their parents far away for help.
“Studying abroad at a young age can help students learn foreign languages 17 and broaden the minds, 18 students and parents should know about the challenges,” Chen said.“If you want to study abroad, try to talk to someone with 19 in foreign countries. 20 sure that you are ready for it”.

We may look at the world around us, but somehow we manage not to see it until whatever we’ve become used to suddenly disappears. 1 , for example, the neatly-dressed woman I 2 to see-or look at-on my way to work each morning.
For three years, no matter 3 the weather was like, she was always waiting at the bus stop around 8∶00 am.On 4 days, she wore heavy clothes and a pair of woolen gloves.Summertime she 5 out neat, belted cotton dresses and a hat pulled low over her sunglasses. 6 , she was an ordinary working woman.Of course, I 7 all this only after she was seen no more.It was then that I realized how 8 I expected to see her each morning. You might say I 9 her.
“Did she have an accident?Something 10 ?” I thought to myself about her 11 Now that she was gone, I felt I had 12 her.I began to realize that part of our 13 life probably includes such chance meetings with familiar 14 :the milkman you see at dawn, the woman who 15 walks her dog along the street every morning, the twin brothers you see at the library.Such people are 16 markers in our lives. They add weight to our 17 of place and belonging.
Think about it. 18 , while walking to work, we mark where we are by 19 a certain building, why should we not mark where we are when we pass a familiar, though 20 person?

It was just getting dark. There was a touch of fog and I was on a lonely stretch of road. 1 I was going along cheerfully, thinking about the dinner I would eat when I got to Salisbury.
I was going along 2 at about thirty-five miles an hour when suddenly I heard a scream, a 3 scream-“Help!”I looked round, but the only 4 of life was a large, black, rather suspicious-looking(可疑的)car just 5 a bend in the road about a hundred yards away. That was where the cry had come from.I 6 speed and went after it.I think the driver saw what I was doing, for he did the same and began to draw 7 me.As I drew near, the girl’s voice came again, a lovely voice but trembling with 8 .
“Let me go, you coward; you’re hurting me.Oh!Oh!”
I felt my 9 boil. The fog was coming down 10 now, and the countryside was lonelier.I had no 11 that the murderous guy in the car noticed this.Again came a cry.
“Drop that knife, you fool.Oh!” Then a cry and a groan(呻吟).
If I was to save her, it was now or 12 .Perhaps even now I was too late. But if I couldn’t save the girl, I would at least try to bring the murderer to 13 .The car was only a couple of yards away now.I drove the bike right across its 14 , and its brakes(煞车)screamed as the driver tried to pull it over and 15 into the ditch(沟)at the side of the road. The door of the car was pushed open angrily and a dark, evil-looking fellow stepped out.

“You have been listening to a radio play, Murder in Hollywood, with Mae Garbo and Clark Taylor. The news will follow immediately.”
