        In the morning, Slim got up and prepared breakfast for his wife as usual. Nicole, his wife, was
listening to music in the bedroom. Suddenly, he felt that his body was shaking. Slim had the rapid response
that there was an earthquake! He shouted quickly, "Dear, earthquake! Go to the toilet!" Nicole heard the
shouting, took the first-aid box quickly and ran into the toilet. The house was shaking even more
dramatically (剧烈地).
        Bathroom was the next door to the kitchen. Slim picked up a kitchen knife and two pieces of bread
outside the kitchen. Slim tried to run along the wall to help Nicole. However, there was a dark suddenly

     Speaking of what sort of smartness is most desirable in human conduct, a friend of mine has this to say:
Real stnartness must be something that can be practised repeatedly and infinitely. Then, he goes on to relate
this event: In one European country there resided some Lebanese. Upon learning that ambulance rides there
are provided free to patients in emergency cases, they rented an apartment near a hospital. Each time they
wanted to go home, they just pretended to be sick, calling for an ambulance. On arrival at the hospital, they
said now that they felt much better and had no need of any treatment. The next moment saw them leaving,
safe and sound, to their apartment.
     Their "being-clever" affords them only short-lived pleasure and joy; it could not he practised repeatedly,
still less infinitely. Such smartness is based on "too clever to be wise". Once seen through, they will lose the
benefits they profited by playing dirty tricks. They will suffer the impairment of their own image and reputation
as well as that of those who are tied with them by blood or by common interests.
     When a person has done something to the discredit of one's own image and reputation, it will surely involve
others related to him in one way or another. Among those inflicted most hy what folly (愚蠢) he may have
done are those who, to him, have been close in relations and dear in sentiment.
     Additionally, whether one's act is wise or unwise, rather the summit of wisdom, depends on the result of
the act; if _____, then the more often he does it, the better will he be believed. While repeating that act, he is
not only earning himself an admirable image but also contributing to the fine impression and reputation of his
relatives, his friends, his hometown and his motherland.

     To whom are you grateful in your life? Do these people know the full extent of your gratitude? Do you
realize how grateful they will be when you tell them? Gratitude is more important than an attitude; gratitude
is philosophy. The philosophy of gratitude being as a hope, grows into a belief, and finally becomes an
absolute knowing. It is a knowing that within any given situation-peaceful or painful or ugly-there is always
a gift waiting, waiting for to see.
     If it appears you have nothing to be grateful for, it is because you are not allowing yourself to receive.
Just because you do not receive does not mean there is nothing to receive. On the contrary (相反), there
is always ____ and so there is always a reason to be grateful. Pray:"Dear God, teach me I am worthy to
receive, teach me how to receive, teach me gratitude". Gratitude is good medicine. One single serving of
gratitude is often enough to open the heart, energise the body, warm the bones, make your hair curl, put a
spring in your step, start you humming, and make you smile like a baby.
