     My name is Lanier Lobdell, and I am a 55 - year - old woman with rheumatoid arthritis (风湿性
关节炎), or RA. RA is a disease that mostly affects the joints, but it can also affect internal organs. I
have had RA for almost21 years, and it definitely has changed my life, however, I try not to live my life
like I have a disease.
     For me, attitude is everything. I always try to find humor in the situation or try to ignore it, but that

chapters and people who are affected by all forms of arthritis including RA.
     I want to encourage people not to let RA stop them from living their lives the best they can. There
are so many new medicines coming out these days, and they can really help. People have to be their
own supporters and get informed -- knowledge is power. Talk to your doctor and focus on what you
can do--not what you can't. Rest when your body is telling you to and push and keep going when you
can. Learn to listen to your body- that's how I deal with having RA.

“Everything happens for the best,” my mother said whenever I faced disappointment.“lf you carry on, one day something good will happen. And you’II realize that it wouldn’t have happened if not for that previous disappointment.”

Mother was right, as I discovered after’graduating from college in 1932, I had decided to try for a jo’o in radio, then work my way up to a sports announcer. My disappointment must have shown.“Everything happens for the best.” Mom reminded me. Dad offered me the car to hunt a job. I tried woc Radio in Davenport, Iowa. Ra. The program director, a wonderful Scotsman named Peter MacArthur told me they had already hired an announcer.

As  I  left his office,  my  frustration(挫折) boiled over.  I  asked aloud,“How can a  fellow get to be a sports announcer if he can’t get a job in a radio station?” I was waiting for the elevator when I heard MacArthur calling,“What was you said about sports? Do you know anything about footballtl” Then he stood me before a microphone and asked me to broadcast an imaginary game.
