阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
假设你是某英文报社的编辑,收到某中学生读者的来信,信件内容如下:
Dear editor,
Recently, I was chosen as one of the two students by our school to compete in an English-speaking contest. I felt very excited and happy because I was given a precious chance to win honor for my school and to prove myself. In order to make sure that I could achieve the best in the competition, for almost two months, I had devoted myself to the preparation for the contest. With so much preparation, I was pretty confident that I would win! However, I was beaten by one of my school’s “weak” rivals (竞争者). When the result was announced, I could hardly believe my ears. Upset and disappointed, I burst into tears at that time. I felt as though I let my teachers down and even harmed our school’s reputation (名誉).I even felt that all my classmates were laughing at me behind my back . It seemed that my whole world had turned grey because of this failure .What can I do?

Dear Echo,
From your letter, I know that you put a lot of effort into the competition and really tried your best. Unfortunately, you didn’t win and have really been bothered by the unexpected result.
On one hand, I totally sympathize with your feelings. Everyone enters a competition with the hope to win. Perhaps it is quite natural for you to feel this way after such a setback. But on the other hand, I think you shouldn’t place so much importance on winning. There is the saying that “it is not winning, but the taking part that counts”. Hopefully by appearing in this competition you will not only have improved your English, but will also take a more valuable lesson from it. It’s impossible to win all the time and everyone must learn to take defeat gracefully (潇洒地). Besides, you might have been worrying too much. The fact that you lost this competition won’t diminish your value as an intelligent and hard-working student in the eyes of your teachers and classmates.
So cheer up! You will find that your world is actually brighter than before.

第二节 读写任务(共1小题,满分25分)
阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词的英语短文。
When students first go to a library, they may be at a loss as to what to read of all the different
subjects. Well, Bacon tells you to “look at weak places in your armor (盔甲)”, and shows you how to fill up the blanks in your knowledge. On the other hand, it is no good just trying to fill your mind with knowledge. Knowledge in itself is often useless. A mind filled with too much knowledge is like a room too full of furniture; a man cannot walk about freely in it, and look out of the windows. It is much better to concentrate on a few subjects that interest you and to deal lightly with the others than to march heavily through the whole range of learning, like a silly tourist going through a museum and not missing a single object. If you try to master every subject you may become very wise, but you will be very lonely and you will probably lose all your friends. So you must learn to pick and choose, and you must also learn to look here and there in a library like a camel eating grass on the grassland. If you watch it eating, you will see that although he is supposed to be one of the most stupid animals in the world, he has at least one of the qualities of the cultured man, the power to pick and choose. A student looking for mental food in a library should take the camel as his model.

The word NEET refers to young people not in education, employment or training. They usually stay at home without finding a job. In China, the number of NEET youth is increasing year by year. Most of these young people are university graduates.
Miss Huang, a 25 year-old girl in Shanghai, gave up her first job in a restaurant because of her parents’ objection and her second, the salary. Now she has to stay at home, financially supported by her parents as she did before graduation from college. She said she would wait some time before she started another job as it was not easy to find a job she liked.
Some people do this because they are afraid to grow up and take responsibility, while some do it because they simply cannot find an ideal job due to fierce job competition. Professor Yang Yiyong, vice secretary-general of the China Association for Labor Studies, says that lots of young people are quite self-centered. In recent years, hundreds of schools have carried out experiments with paying kids with each for showing up or getting good grades. All school kids admire this trend. But it upsets adults. Teachers say that we are rewarding kids for doing what they should be doing of their own will. Psychologists warn that money can actually make kids perform worse by making the act of learning cheap.
