A new CCTV building in Beijing caught fire on Feburary 9, 2009, which caused one death of a firefighter as well as a heavy financial loss. It was reported that the fire was caused by setting off fireworks. w.w.w.k.s.5.u.c.o.m

Setting off fireworks is a traditional way for us Chinese people to celebrate the traditional festival, which can strengthen the relationship between family members and people’s value on the Chinese tradition. However, every coin has two sides. While enjoying the fun brought by setting off fireworks, we have to be aware of the danger behind it. First, it can easily cause fire, which threatens people’s property and lives. Second, fireworks can be a threat to people’s health and environment, because they make noise and air pollution. w.w.w.k.s.5.u.c.o.m

In my opinion, to let more people hold on to the Chinese tradition and value and experience more fun, we don’t have to ban people from setting off fireworks. Meanwhile, the local government should urge all citizens to be on alert during the period. Besides departments involved should attach great importance to the fireworks safety and get prepared for emergency.
