Tragedy at the Circus

　　In yesterday's circus(马戏团)show, a tiger suddenly attacked its trainer and had to be shot dead．As the circus packed up and left, circus officials said the show would go on, even without tigers．However, the officials can't simply turn a blind eye to the ethical(道德的) problems left behind．Even before this tragedy, animal rights activists protested against keeping wild animals in unnatural conditions and forcing them to suffer for the profit(利润)of circus organizers．

　　First, our performing animals are not taken from the wild．As to the ethical problems, we always believe humans and animals can-and should-live together nicely．To us, the performing animals are representatives of their species, and our circus is one of the only places left willing to support this special role of performing animals in the existence of the species．Those who argue that circus life is harmful to animals show little knowledge of these facts．Life in the“wild”is unsafe, but a continuous struggle for existence．To overlook these realities is the greatest fault against the animal kingdom．

　　This circus has proven that animals are stronger and smarter than we could imagine．Within the circus is a joyful atmosphere for both animals and humans：people are educated, and species saved．

At three a.m., Jack Mills was sitting at the controls of the mail train. The train was made up of 13 cars. At the end of the train, 71 mailmen sat sorting the mail. Inside the second car, there were only five mailmen and 128 bags full of five-pound notes. This train had run more than 100 years without being robbed(抢劫).      At one time no one could travel on an English road faster than four miles an hour. That was the law until
1896. A man had to walk in front of a car which could not go faster than the man. At night the man had to
carry a red lamp.
     Once Charles Rolls brought a car from France to England, but he wanted to drive faster than four miles
an hour.In order to have no trouble with the police, he had a talk with some of the police officers, who ordered
their policemen to look the other way when the car came along the road. This was a good plan in the country,
but not so easy to follow in the busy streets of London.

     Moving at any time of a year is difficult, but if you have a flexible schedule and are not on a specific
timeline, there are several factors to consider when deciding when to move. Keep in mind that these
factors could also be part of a negotiation deal with your employer if you are being relocated or if
starting a new position.
     If you have children at home, it is best to work around the school calendar.  Summer is an ideal time,
as children have completed another grade and have said their goodbyes to school friends. Planning to
move directly following the end of school, however, does not give your children time to adapt to the
idea of moving, to say goodbye to neighborhood friends and their home. When setting the date, allow
a few weeks at the new destination for children to unpack and meet new neighborhood friends. They
will be better prepared for the school year if they have time to make their new house their home.  Too
much change can be detrimental to performance and emotional wellbeing.
     What works best for your children also works best for you. As part of the settling in process, take
a few days for you and your children to check out the new school, meet some teachers and find
appropriate transportation. Both you and your children will be better prepared, leading to a smoother
transition.
    When possible, avoid moving before major holidays, such as Christmas, since part of such holidays
is being with family and friends. Birthdays, and other family events can also be difficult. Give yourself
enough time in your new place before the holiday season begins to meet new people and feel a sense
of community. Better yet, save your move for immediately following a holiday. Holidays provide a
perfect opportunity for goodbyes and final gettogethers.
     Most people would agree that summer is the best time to move. Children are out of school, the
weather is almost guaranteed to be perfect and friends are available to help. If this is your ideal time to
move, make sure you check moving company schedules and rates before confirming your move date.
  Most companies have peak times and will charge higher rates accordingly. Also, if you are planning
to move at peak times, you will need to be better organized to ensure that a moving company or a
moving truck is available for the date and times you require. Keep in mind that the level of the service
often changes between the summer months, when students replace fulltime experienced movers, and
offseason.
     As much as summer could cost you more, winter, as common sense indicates, is also not an ideal
time to move. Travel is difficult, both for you and your family, along with the moving company.  Items
kept overnight in a truck under freezing conditions may result in damaged goods.  If you are moving
from one climate to another, water damage may occur when the mode of transport that is moving your
household items travels from a cold environment to a warmer climate. Freezing and thawing cause the
most damage if items are not properly sealed.

     At one time or another most farmers have problems with mice. This is especially true for grain farmers.
Mice eat a lot of grain. They also carry diseases (疾病) ,which people can get from eating or touching grain
the mice have made dirty. Farmers can use special grain storage buildings or they can kill the mice. However,
both methods can be costly. Farmers must buy materials to build the special grain storage buildings or
chemical poisons to kill the mice.
     Here is a way to kill mice without spending a lot of money. It is a simple but effective kind of mouse trap.
The method is first used by some farmers in the west African country of Mali. An agricultural expert in Mali
reported about the Mali mouse trap in a magazine. The expert reported that his gardener caught 150 mice in
just one night. The gardener used four traps. The trap is easy to make. First, remove the top from a 20 liter
metal or plastic container (容器). Put it in a hole in the ground. The top edge of the container should be the
level with the surface of the ground. Fill the container with water to within eight centimeters of the top. Add
tiny pieces of grain wastes. They should float on the water. Also put some wastes on the ground near the trap.
During the night, mice will come out to eat the grain wastes. They will fall into the container and drown.
