Ìáʾ£ºÎÂÊÒÆøÌåµÄÅÅ·Å the emission of greenhouse gases

With the rapid development of the economy, pollution has become one of the most serious problems nowadays. ____________________________________

With the rapid development of the economy, pollution has become one of the most serious problems nowadays. The emission of greenhouse gases not only results in more and more CO2 in the atmosphere but also keeps the temperature going up. It has many harmful effects on human beings and nature, such as the rise of sea levels, many natural disasters and so on.

Therefore, it¡¯s time to take steps to make a difference. First of all, we should save energy .We should turn off the lights, the TV ,the computer and so on if we are not using them any longer. We can walk or ride a bike when we go out instead of using motor vehicles. Secondly, we should plant more trees as they absorb carbon dioxide from the air and refresh our spirit when we look at them. Finally and most importantly, we should talk with our family and friends about global warming to raise people¡¯s awareness of the importance of protecting the environment.

When I walked into the house after school, the first thing I noticed was a box with items I recognized from my dad¡¯s office. When he told me that he was laid off, I thought he was joking. Then I noticed his seriousness and realized he was telling the truth. My father has always been a hard worker. He has prided himself on his career. 1. I guess I had taken his work for granted.

2. For starters, he was home all the time. It meant my bed had to be made, my room cleaned up, and my homework done right after school. I would come home every day to find him at the computer searching for jobs. 3. He seemed down, though he tried to be optimistic. He asked my brother and me to spend less. I gave up my spending money, which wasn't much. I also found a part-time job.

4. He explained that he never wanted to be laid off again, so he was going to start his own business. Day by day, I watched him build it. One evening I asked if he needed help. ¡°Only if it doesn't affect school,¡± he said. I showed up at his office the next afternoon, and most afternoons after that for two months.

5. The terrible experience for our family taught me how to deal with difficulties. Now I know that through creative problem-solving, I can always find Plan B. I can ask for help and take risks. What I have learned from my dad¡¯s understanding of business and his work ethic£¨ÐÅÌõ£©are two of the most important lessons I will ever learn. And they will be my principles for success.

A. Providing for our family has been his joy.

B. I made every effort to solve his problems.

C. I began to notice how losing his job had affected him.

D. My father's unemployment created many changes in our lives.

E. After months of searching, my dad decided to go in a totally different direction.

F. His courage and determination helped him to become successful in his new career.

G. I always knew he was a hard worker, but watching him in action influenced me a lot.

Make Up Your Mind to Succeed

Kind-hearted parents have unknowingly left their children defenseless against failure. The generation born between 1980 and 2001 grew up playing sports where scores and performance were played down because ¡°everyone¡¯s winner.¡± And their report cards sounded more positive (ÕýÃæµÄ) than ever before. As a result, Stanford University professor Carol Dweck, PhD, calls them ¡°the overpraised generation.¡±

Dweck has been studying how people deal with failure for 40 years. Her research has led her to find out two clearly different mind-sets that have a great effect on how we react to it. Here¡¯s how they work:

A fixed mind-set is grounded in the belief that talent (²ÅÄÜ) is genetic ¨C you¡¯re a born artist, point guard, or numbers person. The fixed mind-set believes he¡¯s sure to succeed without much effort and regards failure as personal shame. When things get difficult, he¡¯s quick to blame, lie, and even stay away from future difficulties.

On the other hand, a growth mind-set believes that no talent is entirely heaven-sent and that effort and learning make everything possible. Because the ego (×Ô×ð) isn¡¯t on the line as much, the growth mind-set sees failure as a chance rather than shame. When faced with a difficulty, he¡¯s quick to rethink, change and try again. In fact, he enjoys this experience.

We are all born with growth mind-sets. (Otherwise, we wouldn¡¯t be able to live in the world.) But parents, teachers, and instructors often push us into fixed mind-sets by encouraging certain actions and misdirecting praise. Dweck¡¯s book, Mind-set: The New Psychology of Success, and online instructional program explain this in depth. But she says there are many little things you can start doing today to make sure that your children, grandchildren and even you are never defeated by failure.

1. What does the author think about the present generation?

A. They don¡¯t do well at school.B. They are often misunderstood.

C. They are eager to win in sports.D. They are given too much praise.

2.A fixed mind-set person is probably one who ___ .

A. doesn¡¯t want to work hard

B. cares a lot about personal safety

C. cannot share his ideas with others

D. can succeed with the help of teachers

3.What does the growth mind-set believe?

A. Admitting failure is shameful.

B. Talent comes with one¡¯s birth.

C. Scores should be highly valued.

D. Getting over difficulties is enjoyable.

4. What should parents do for their children based on Dweck¡¯s study?

A. Encourage them to learn from failures.

B. Prevent them from making mistakes.

C. Guide them in doing little things.

D. Help them grow with praise.

If you see a group of people dancing and singing on the street or in the railway station, you don't need to feel surprised. They are a flash mob(±©Ãñ). Who are they? Are they mobs? Don't be confused by their name. Actually, a flash mob is a group of people who gather suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, and then quickly disappear.

They are usually organized with the help of the Internet or other digital communications networks. The messages may be sent to friends, who send to more people. At a predetermined time, they gather and perform some activities such as exchanging books, coming together to look at the sky, waving their hands and yelling something at the top of their voice for 30 seconds. Then, they quickly disappear before the police can arrive. Using mobile phones, the flash mob can change its place if the first one has been cancelled for any reason.

Bill Wasik, senior editor of Harper's Magazine, organized the first flash mob in Manhattan in May 2003 and the first successful flash mob gathered on June 3,2003. Wasik claimed that he created the flash mob as a social experiment designed to laugh at fashion seekers and stress the cultural atmosphere of wanting to be an insider or part of ¡°the next big thing¡±£®

Flash mob gatherings can sometimes shock people. Such an activity might seem amusing and magical, but it also might frighten people who are not aware of what is taking place. Undoubtedly, flash mob can serve as good political tools and have great potential, such as using to advertise a product.
