¡²2¡³Learning English vocabulary is about much more than just learning the right words. A broad grasp of vocabulary in the English language is based on understanding important expressions and ¡°word combinations¡±, which means groups of words that often or always go together.
¡²3¡³Learning a word will not help very much if you quickly forget it. Research shows that it takes from 10 to 20 repetitions to really make a word part of your vocabulary. Since most words are learned from how they are used in context £¨ÉÏÏÂÎÄ£©, the more words one is exposed to£¨½Ó´¥£©, The easier one will find English to learn . Keep a writing pad close to you. When you read, pay close attention to the word you do not know, write the word down and try to figure out its meaning from the context. Then_______________________ in a dictionary.
¡²4¡³Remember that if you do not use English words that you have just learned in conversation or writing, you will forget them very quickly. So the best way to learn new words effectively is just by trying to use them in conversation and writing. Remember also that practice is the key to fluent spoken English.
¡²5¡³Building vocabulary is a life-long task. Remember, ¡°In the beginning was the word.¡± Your future could depend on how rich your vocabulary is. It will also determine the quality of your communication.

¡¾1¡¿Classroom programs designed to improve elementary school students' social and emotional skills can also increase reading and math achievement, even if academic improvement is not a direct goal of the skills building, according to a study to be published this month in American Educational Research Journal.
¡¾2¡¿The benefit holds true for students across a range of social-economic backgrounds. In the study, "Efficacy of the Responsive Classroom Approach: Results from a Three Year, Longitudinal Randomized Controlled Trial," the researchers looked specifically at Responsive Classroom (RC), a widely-used social and emotional learning intervention(½éÈ뷽ʽ).
¡¾3¡¿The study is among just a handful of randomized controlled trials that have examined the effect of social and emotional learning interventions on student achievement.
¡¾4¡¿"We find that at the very least, supporting students' social and emotional growth in the classroom does not interfere with academic learning," said Rimm-Kaufman, professor at the University of Virginia Curry School of Education. "When teachers receive adequate levels of training and support, using practices that support students' social and emotional growth actually boosts achievement."
¡¾5¡¿Math and reading gains were similar among those students who qualified for free and reduced-priced lunch and those who were not.
¡¾6¡¿"The success of many curricula(¿Î³Ì)requires that teachers use effective classroom management and develop student confidence and autonomy(×ÔÖ÷)," said Rimm-Kaufman. "Our trial of the Responsive Classroom approach suggests that teachers who take the time to foster relationships in the classroom and support children's self-control actually promote student achievement."
¡¾7¡¿"In a time of intense academic demands, many critics question the value of spending time on teaching social skills, building classroom relationships and supporting student autonomy," said Rimm-Kaufman. "Our research shows that time spent supporting children's social and emotional abilities can be a very wise investment."

Many people run after goals that they hope will make them happy£¬but happiness is not always the final result. So how does one decide which goals will end in personal happiness and which will not£¿How do the things in life affect personal happiness?
¡¡The most important thing is people¡¯s attitude toward life£¬which can greatly affect their personal levels of happiness and satisfaction with life.
¡¡Psychologists have known for some time that optimism is a good way to fight against unhappiness. It¡¯s probably no secret that optimistic people are considered to be much happier people than pessimists. There are specific characteristic features optimists have (pleasant ways of thinking)£¬that bring them more success£¬greater health£¬increased life satisfaction, and other good things. If you became an optimist£¬it can mean that you became a very happy person£¬despite your circumstances£¬and it can actually bring more things into your life to be happy about.¡°If you are optimistic and you think life is going to get better£¬it will become a selffulfillment prediction.¡± says one of the scientists.¡°Happy people manage to look on the bright side£¬even if they meet big problems on their way.¡±
¡¡Positive psychologists believe that people can learn how to become happy and that everyone can teach themselves to see a half empty glass as half full. All they have to do is to spend time thinking about all the things that have gone right for them£¬rather than complaining what has gone badly. But people who are depressed usually think and worry about something that went wrong in the past.

James Dean came to Hollywood when he was eighteen, hoping to get into the movies. At first, he was not successful at all. Then he went to New York. He got a part in a play and was seen by the great director Elia Kazan. Kazan was planning the movie East of Eden and realized Dean would be perfect for one of the main roles.
By this time, Dean had already had a reputation and was difficult to work with. He then went back to Hollywood to make East of Eden and then made two more movies, Rebel Without a Cause and Giant. He almost always wore the same overcoat and jeans and he had hardly any friends at all. ¡°If he didn¡¯t like you, he wouldn¡¯t even give you the pleasure of his anger. You could be in the same telephone booth with him, but you wouldn¡¯t exist,¡± someone who knew him said later.
In spite of his poor eyesight, he loved driving fast motorcycles and even faster sports cars. A few days after he finished Giant, on September 25, 1955, Dean went for a drive in his new Porsche. It was evening and the light was poor. Dean was not wearing his glasses. Suddenly, he saw a car in front of him. It was slowing down and trying to turn off the highway. Dean tried to slow down too, but it was too late. He hit the car at high speed and was killed immediately.
A few years later, a New York salesclerk wrote a book called Jimmy Dean Returns in which she claimed that she was in contact with Dean from the other side of the grave. Half a million copies of the book were sold. It was only the beginning of a strange legend(´«Ææ) that goes on, even today.

Speaking English is not only about using proper grammar. To use English effectively, you need to understand the culture in which it is spoken. Here are a number of important tips to remember when speaking English in the United States.
General Points to Remember
Most Americans only speak English: while it is true that more and more Americans speak Spanish, most Americans           . Don¡¯t expect them to understand your native language.
Americans have difficulties in understanding foreign accents: many Americans are not used to foreign accents. This requires patience from both of you!
Conversation Tips
Speak about locations: Americans love to talk about locations. When speaking to a stranger, ask him/her where he/she is from and then make a connection with that place. For example: ¡°Oh, I have a friend who studied in Los Angeles. He says it¡¯s beautiful place to live in.¡± Most Americans will then willingly talk about their experiences while living in or visiting that particular city or area.
Talk about sports: Americans love sports! However, they love American sports! When speaking about football, most Americans understand ¡°American Football¡±, not soccer.
Addressing People
Use last names with people you do not know: address people using their titles (Mr, Ms, Dr) and their last names.
Always use ¡°Ms¡± when addressing women: it is important to use ¡°Ms¡± when addressing a woman. Only use ¡°Mrs¡± when the woman has asked you to do so!
Public Behaviors
Always shake hands: Americans shake hands when greeting each other. This is true for both men and women. Other forms of greeting are generally not appreciated. Smoking is out! Smoking, ever in public places, is strongly disapproved of by most Americans in the modern United States.

Women make better drivers than men for many reasons. Why is that? Wouldn't you think that competing at who has better driving abilities is pointless? If you ask me, I'd like to say, men know that women are better drivers but do not have the courage to admit the truth.
Unlike men, women stop for directions when they have no idea where they are going. Women don't drive around for hours pointlessly wasting a tank of gas only to find themselves heading in the wrong direction. Have you ever been in a car with a man who is lost? He tells you to shut up when you begin to open your mouth. And every five minutes or so he takes a turn going forty-five miles per hour only to find out he's made another wrong turn.
Speeding is what men do best on the road. Traffic is not a race. There is a reason why men get more speeding tickets than women. Not because women trick to get out of tickets but only because they don't speed. Women don't risk putting their own lives and the lives of others in danger. In other words £¬they have more responsibility for life.
My largest issue with male drivers is how a majority of them drive with one hand on the wheel and the other hand doing only God knows what. The seat is backed as far as possible. They're totally lost in loud music beyond a necessary level. You don't ever see women driving like that.
I feel that the above evidence more than proves my points that women are queens of the road. Oh £¬men, if you want to continue criticizing women for being bad drivers£¬ bring it on. We know you lack confidence, or else you wouldn't be wasting your valuable time making jokes about the ones you may choose to spend the rest of your days with.

Ashley Power¡¯s mother bought a computer for her when she was eight. When she was thirteen, she was surfing the Internet regularly, but she couldn¡¯t find anywhere for teenagers to meet and talk. And one day she thought, ¡°If I had my own website, I¡¯d make it a really interesting site for teenagers.¡±
¡¡¡¡So, when Ashley was sixteen, she launched her own website, called Goosehead. She had no idea how big a success it would be, but three years later, the site was the most successful teen site in the USA! It was getting 100,000 hits every day, and Ashley had about 30 employees.
¡¡¡¡After a few years, the website closed down. Then Ashley, who lives in Los Angeles, was asked to write a book called The Goosehead Guide to Life. The book is about how to design a website and start a business. It begins with a section called ¡°All About Ashley,¡± where Ashley tells readers what it is like to be the boss of a company when you are only sixteen. ¡°I was so happy. But it was crazy in a lot of ways. I got very stressed. I mean, I was only sixteen¡ªI didn't even have a car! If you were sixteen and you had your own company, you'd be stressed, too!¡±
