Thanksgiving Day was near. The Grade 7 teacher asked her students to 1a picture of something for which they were thankful.
People celebrated the2with turkey and other traditional goods of the season. So,3of her students’ pictures were about them.
However, Jack made a4 kind of picture. Jack was not the same as other boys. He always looked sad. When asked to draw a picture of something for which he was 5 , he drew a hand. Other students were all very 6lin the picture. Whose hand could it be? One child guessed it was the hand of a farmer, because farmers feed 7 Another suggested a police officer, because the police8and care for people. Still9guessed it was the hand of God, for God feeds us. And so the10went on until the teacher almost forgot the young artist himself.
When the children had gone on to other subjects, she stopped at Jack’s desk and asked him 11it was. The little boy looked up and said in a12voice, “It’s yours, teacher.”
She remembered the times she had taken his hand and13with him here or there, as she had with the other students. She often said, “14my hand, Jack. We’11 go outside.” Or, “Let me show you how to use your pencil.” Jack was most thankful for his15 hand.

“I don’t know, sir,” the student answered. “Shall I examine him and find out?”
“There’s no need to examine him,” said the doctor. “You should know without asking questions. He has hurt his right knee. Didn’t you notice the way he walked? He hurt it by burning it in the fire. You see his trousers leg is burnt away at the knee. This is Monday morning. Yesterday was fine, but on Saturday the roads were wet and muddy. The man’s trousers are muddy all over. The man fell down on Saturday night.”
The doctor then turned to the man and said, “You had your pay on Saturday and went to a public house and drank too much. You got muddy and wet on the way home. Because you had drunk too much, you fell on the fire and burnt your knee. Is that right?

If we are driving a car or crossing a street, we will stop when the traffic lights turn red. Why do we use red rather than other colors?
As we know, scattering (散射) happens when light goes through the air. For the same media, if the wavelength (波长) is long, the scattering will be short. If the wavelength is short, then the scattering will be long.
Of all light we can see red has the longest wavelength, so the scattering is the weakest. That means the red light travels far. In fact, it travels farther on rainy days.
Using the red light can help drivers in farther areas see the lights. It helps drivers slow down or stop in time. If drivers don’t see the red light until they are close, they may not be able to stop the car in time. An accident may happen. Red can also excite people. We can act more quickly when we see the color red.
In a word, red light helps drivers stop in time and help prevent accidents
