Good afternoon! Welcome to England. We hope that your visit here will be a pleasant one. Now, I would like to tell you something about our laws.

The first one is about drinking. Now, you may not buy wine (酒) in this country if you are under 18 years of age, nor (也不) may your friends buy it for you.

The second one: noise. Enjoy yourselves by all means, but please don’t make unnecessary noise, especially at night. We ask you to respect (尊敬) other people who may wish to be quiet.

The third one: crossing the road. Be careful. The traffic moves on the left side of the road in this country. Use pedestrian crossings (人行横道) and do not take any chances when crossing the road.

My next point is about rubbish. It isn’t lawful (合法的) to drop rubbish in the street. When you have something to throw away, please put it in your pocket and take it home, or put it in a dustbin (垃圾箱).

Finally, smoking. It is against the law to buy cigarettes (香烟) or tobaccos (烟草) if you are under 16 years of age.

I’d like to finish by saying that if you need any kind of help, you can contact (联系) the police. The police will be pleased to help you. You can call, write or directly go to ask any policeman.

Mobile phone has become a problem for middle schools. Some middle schools in Australia have banned(禁止) students from carrying mobile phones during school hours.

Mobile phone use among children has become a problem for the schools this year. Several children have got mobile phones as Christmas presents, and more students want them.

Mary Bluett, an official(官员) said mobile phone use is a distraction(分心) to students during school hours and it also gives teachers so much trouble in their classrooms. Teachers were also saying that sometimes students might use phone messages to cheat(作弊) during exams.

The official said some schools had tried to ban mobile phones. Some parents felt unhappy because they couldn’t get in touch with their children.

Many teachers said students should not have mobile phones at school, but if there was a good reason, they could leave their phones at school office. They also said there were many reasons why the students should not have mobile phones at school: they were easy to lose and were a distraction from studies.

Many people say that they understand why parents would like their children to have phones, but they think schools should let the students know when they can use their mobile phones.
