The Guidance Department(教导处)at Berryville High School has a staff(员工) of eleven teachers. Most of their work is done with the students. But the staff sees a lot of parents, too.

“Parents meetings make clear monthly diagram( 图表) ,” says Mildred Foreman, head of the Guidance. "The diagram stays much the same from year to year. The busy months are October, March and May."

September, the beginning of a new school year, starts rather slowly. Few parents come in. Most of these want to talk about the schedules( 日程安排 ). October brings many problems caused by some students. Some parents are called in. Others come by themselves. Things quiet down in November. December is a quiet month.

"It's the holiday. "Ms. Foreman says, "People want to come in, I know, but they decide to wait until after New Year's Day."

Report cards go home just before Christmas holidays. Bad marks bring parents in as school opens again. This happens again in March, another report card month. May is always the year's busiest month. That's when parents begin to think that their children may be asked to stay in the same grade again. They come in to see if anything can be done before things are decided in June.

In our life, we don’t often expressed our gratitude(感激) to the one who’d lived those years with us. In fact, we don’t have to wait for anniversaries to thank the ones closet to us--- the ones so easily overlooked(忽视). If I have learned anything about giving thanks, it is time to give it now! While your feeling of appreciation is alive and sincere, act on it. Saying thanks is such an easy way to add to the world’s happiness.

Saying thanks not only brightens someone else’ world, it brightens yours. If you’re feeling left out, unloved or unappreciated, try reaching out to others. It may be just the medicine you need,

Of course, there are times when you can’t express gratitude immediately. In that case don’t let embarrassment sink you into silence--- speak up the first time you have the chance.

Once a young minister, Mark Brian, was sent to a remote parish of Kwakiutl Indians in British Columbia. The Indians, he had been told, did not have a word for thanking you. But the Brian soon found these people had exceptional generosity. Instead of saying thanks, it is their custom to return every favor with a favor of their own, and every kindness with an equal or superior kindness. They do their thanks.

I wonder if we had no words in our vocabulary for thanking you, would we do a better job of communicating our gratitude? Would we be more responsive, more sensitive, more caring?

4.What does the underlined word “left out” in the second paragraph mean?

A. go to another place B. be ignored C. give out D. leave for

Most of us use alarm clocks to wake up at the right time for school or work. We look at our watches to know the right time for the bus or train. However, there is also a right time to eat, sleep, exercise, and take medicine, too. We can’t look at a clock for the right time for these activities. We must listen to the clock inside our bodies: the biological clock(生物钟)

Barbara Wells exercised every morning. She woke up at 6:00 am. She ran about two miles before she went to work. But Barbara’s legs and back(后背) started to hurt. She did some exercises before she ran. But her legs and back still hurt. She ran slower, but the pain didn’t stop. Barbara talked to her doctor. The doctor said,“Don’t run in the morning. Try to exercise later in the day. That is the time when your body is at the right temperature for exercises after work.” Her legs and back don’t hurt anymore.

Today, doctors are learning more about chronobiology (时间生物学),the study of biology clocks. They are learning about the importance of time for our bodies. For example, it is best for people to go to sleep at the same time every night and to eat only when they’re hungry. Also, doctors discovered that some illness, such as heart attacks(心脏病), occur(发生)most often in the morning. This information tells them that the best time to take heart medication may be at night. When patients take heart medicine at night, they may prevent a heart attack in the morning.

Many doctors believe chronobiology can help us live healthier lives. It may be the right time to listen to these doctors!

4.What is the right time for a heart attack person to take heart medicine?

5.What can we learn from the passage?
