Researches have shown that music has an important effect on one's body and mind. In fact, there is a growing field of health care known as Music Therapy (疗法), which uses music to treat diseases. Even hospitals are beginning to use music therapy. This is not surprising, because music affects the body and mind in many powerful ways.

Researches have shown that quick music can make a person feel more alert (警觉的), while slow music can produce a calm, deep thinking state. Also, researchers have found that music can change brainwave activity levels. This can help the brain to change speeds more easily on its own as needed, which means that music can bring lasting benefits to your state of mind, even after you've stopped listening.

Breathing and heart rate can also be influenced by music. This can mean slower breathing, slower heart rate, and a relaxing response. This is why music and music therapy can help reduce the damaging effects of long- term stress, greatly promoting(促进) not only relaxation, but also health.

Music can also be used to bring about a more positive state of mind, by helping to keep worries away. Music has also been found to bring many other benefits, such as lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of strokes (中风) among others. It is no surprise that so many people are considering music as an important tool to help the body become or stay healthy.

Taking a bus or subway in the United States, you can often see people reading books on their way to school or work. But in China, I hardly ever see people reading during their free time.

Are people’s attitudes (态度) toward reading different here? Not really. Data (数据) from Amazon China in December 2017 show that Chinese people still read a lot. They just like e-books better than traditional books.

However, other data show that reading is still more popular in the US than in China. Is there a reason for this difference? I’m not sure. What I do know is that China has a rich history of literature from great Chinese literature like Romance of the Three Kingdoms (《三国演义》) to the modern science-fiction epic The Three-Body Problem (《 三 体 》). Chinese writers have created many wonderful written works.

Perhaps the difference starts from childhood. Reading textbooks and doing homework can make you feel quite tired. By the time you finish it, you might not feel like reading for fun. Chinese students have to read more and do more homework than US students. So that's why they might not want to read much in their free time.

But learning to love reading can be great. Reading can open doors to places, people and ideas that you cannot think of. Even just a small book has the magic to change your own personal thoughts and attitudes. Where will your next book take you?

2.The difference in reading between China and the US may start when .

3.Why don't Chinese students want to read a lot in their free time?

B.Because they spend too much time on textbooks and homework.

C.Because they might feel like reading textbooks for fun.

4.We can learn in the last paragraph.

A.reading makes a full man

B.reading is the key to traveling

C.reading teaches you to play magic

5.What can you infer from the passage?

A.Chinese students are busier with schoolwork than American students.

B.Amazon China is a famous book that Chinese people read a lot.

C.Traditional books are more popular among Chinese people.
