12.It was late on the night of October 20th,1939when Dr Bethune was busy working in a field hospital.An Eighth Route Army(八路军)man came and told Dr Bethune that the front (前线)needed a lot of medical workers.Immediately Dr Bethune set up a medical team and started to go to.the front at once.

The guns sounded closer and closer now,but Dr Bethune worked on.He and the other doctors did not leave until the operation was over.By that time the Japanese were already very near.
