The cake has sweet-tasting red bean jam (红豆馅) inside. In most Latin American countries, there is a ceremony for girls when they turn fifteen. It’s called quinceanera. During this ceremony, the girl, who dresses up, gives candles to the fifteen most important women in her life. The candles stand for her past. Then they will have a big party. Long ago, girls would marry soon after their quinceanera. But these days, it simply stands for good wishes for girls as they get older.
