He said to himself. If he helped the woman, she might ask him for money when she came to life. If he didn't do that, the old woman might lose her life. Finally, Li Lei decided to help her. Luckily, the old woman was saved. She praised Li Lei, "You are a good boy!" How helpful the boy is! Let's learn from him.

You are a good boy一句强调了本文的主旨。Let's learn from him更是升华了短文的主题。

A Small Red Ribbon

Everyone wants to win a first-place blue ribbon, to be the best in something.

Even little children in kindergartens(幼儿园) want that blue ribbon. In _________, I was never a blue-ribbon person. In a running ribbon competition, I was always the last. In baseball, I usually dropped the ball. During the spring of my kindergarten year, our class had a field trip to a park in a _________ about twenty miles away. Making that drive now very easy to do but when you’re six and you’ve lived in a town of 300 people all your life, going to a big town of a few thousand people is really something.

I don’t remember too much about it. But there was one that I will never forget — the three-legged competition. The parents tied(捆绑) our feet together. I was in pair with a little boy. He was very _________ at sports in our class. He usually won at everything but I didn’t. I knew that our pair didn’t have a chance to _________, and I’m sure he knew he was in trouble. The gun sounded(枪响了) and we were off. Some pairs were stumbling(绊脚) and falling all around, but we stayed on our feet and made it to the other side. _________, when we turned around and headed back, we were in the lead. There was another pair a few metres behind us. But only one pair had a chance to win.

A few metres from the finish line, something terrible happened: I stumbled and fell. We were so _________ to the finish line that my partner could have easily pulled me across the finish line and won. But he didn’t. He stopped, _______ down and helped me up — just as the other pair crossed the finish line. As a result, we received a small red ribbon for coming in second.

I still remember that moment when the young boy decided that helping a friend get on her feet was more important than winning a blue ribbon. And 13 years later, I still have that little ribbon because it tells me that a friend like this boy is the one who really _________ a lot.
