A bus driver saw two men walking along a country road. They were carrying heavy bags.So he telephoned the police at once.A few hours earlier,it had been reported in the newspapers that two thieves had stopped a train and stolen several bags, which were full of money.
Before long, the police found the two men. They questioned both of the men, but neither of them could speak English. The police took them to the police station. The men kept shouting loudly at them all the way. When they got to the station, both of them refused to say anything but pointed at their bags. The police opened the bags. They knew that they had made a terrible mistake. The men were French onion-sellers and their bags were full of onions. The police had to say sorry to them for their mistake and then set them free.
