Once upon a time there lived an old man. He had three sons. One day, he called them together and said, "Sons, I will die soon. To my oldest son I give half my camels, to my second, one-third(三分之一), and to my youngest, one-ninth (九分之一)." Soon after that he died.
Now, the old man had seventeen camels, and the three brothers didn’t know how to do as their father said. They thought a long time about the problem, and it seemed that they must either kill some of the camels and cut them into pieces, or disobey their father. At last they went to their father’s old friend and asked for his advice. As soon as he heard their story, he said, "I will help you. I was a good friend of your father’s. I am old. I have only one camel, but take it-it is yours."
The three sons thanked the old man and took his camel. Now they found it was easy to do as their father wished, The oldest took half- that was nine camels; the second took one-third, that was six; and the youngest took one-ninth, that was two.
After each had got his camels, they found that there was still a camel there. So, to show their thanks to their father’s friend, they gave the camel back to him.

One day, many years ago, when I was working as a psychologist(心理学家)in England, I brought David into my office. His face was pale and he looked at his own feet.
David lost his father when he was two years old and lived with his mother and grandfather ever since. But when he was 13 ,his grandfather died and his mother was killed in a car accident. His teacher told me that he refused to talk to others form then on.
David didn’t say a word. As he was leaving, I put my hand on his shoulder.“Come back next week if you like.” I said.
He came and I suggested(建议)we play a game of chess. He agreed. After that we played chess every Wednesday afternoon—in complete silence. Usually, he arrived earlier than we agreed. It seemed that he liked to be with me.
Months later, when I was looking at his head, he suddenly looked up at me. “It’s your turn.” He said. After that day, David started started talking. He finally got friends in school and he even joined a bicycle club. Now he started his new life.
Maybe I gave David something. But I learned more from him. I learned that time makes it possible to get over what seems to be painful. David showed me how to help people like him.

Some  43  students listen to MP3 players when they are having a lesson that they are not interested in.

Mrs Kirk first began thinking about students’ manners six years ago. “I had my first class in which students were sleeping or talking to each other. It seemed that learning well had nothing to do with them.” She says. “At first, I got worried about this.” But then I said to  46 , “You’re giving lessons, and you need to manage this kind of situation. These students need to know more about manners. It’s time to help them develop some good  47 . They shouldn’t waste time doing nothing when they are young. Sooner or later, they may regret(后悔) the time they  48 .
