Sometimes it may seem that what you are learning at school will be of no use in the future. It may seem that you’re wasting your life away. But you will be surprised to find how much of what you learnt at school is helpful to you one day. Three people were asked what they found useful at school, and their thoughts are shared below.

When I used to ask my teacher how to spell something, she often said. I don’t know. Then she would take out the dictionary and look it up. She was not ashamed to say that she didn’t know the answer. I learnt two things. You don’t have to know______; and if you don’t know how to spell something, just get the dictionary out. Both are very useful lessons!

In school, you also learn to deal with life in general. Little mistakes can seem to be very serious. Wear the wrong clothes and it seems that everyone is laughing at you. Get too close to a boy too fast and everyone talks about you. You want to go into a hole and die! But the truth is that life goes on. You might feel that what you did "wrong" will never ever be forgotten. However, if you can be brave and keep on, you will find that whatever happened will pass and you will start to enjoy life again.

We bad a class called Guidance and in it we learnt about making good decisions in life. I found it pretty boring and didn't pay much attention. One day the teacher made us guess which appliance(家电)we should buy first once we had our own homes. The answer was a fridge. I learnt that it was true once I had my own place. The first day I bought some chicken meat. By dinner time it smelled and I couldn't even eat it! My housemate and I started saving to buy a fridge right away.

Reviewing (复习) is an important part of study. It helps you remember what you have learned. The best way to do this is to review every school day. Here is some advice on how to review well.

Find your place.

找到一个合适的地点非常重要。 Somewhere you feel most comfortable works best. It should also be a quiet place. That helps you put all your heart (心) into your review work.

Take your time.

It’s a good idea to make reviewing part of your study plan. Don’t review for too long. Make sure that you review for no more than two hours at a time, and that you take breaks every half an hour or so. This will keep you fresh and able to take in information.

Stay organised (有条理的).

It can be very helpful to stay organised. If you take notes, organise them by subject or time. That way when you prepare for an exam, you can easily find the right notes to help you.

Check your progress (进展).

At the end of each review, check your notes carefully. It can help you know how much you have reviewed and understood. You could also use review cards to record (记录) your review progress.

Welcome to the Gale Hills Town Hall for tonight’s special community meeting. My name is Sarah Wattle. Tonight we will discuss wind power. This is very important to our town- a company wants to build wind turbines in Gale hills.I know that some of you want these wind turbines to be built, and some of you don’t. So I thought it would be best if we heard from the experts(专家), Dave and Eva. After their talk, we should have a better understanding about wind power and can decide what we want for Gale Hills.

Now, please welcome Dave to the stage!

Thank you, Sarah. It’s great to be here. I love Gale Hills. One reason I love this town so much is because it’s perfect for wind power. And I hope that you will build wind turbines here. Second, wind power, created by wind turbines, is a clean form of energy. Third, the people of Gale Hills will benefit(受益) from having wind turbines. And the last is wind turbines will bring tourists to the town. So, I say to you, please agree to have wind turbines in Gale Hills. You will all benefit!

Thank you, Dave. Now, Eva will give us a different idea.

Thank you, Sarah Wattle. I don’t want wind turbines to be built in Gale Hills. First, wind turbines are noisy. The windier it is, the noisier they are. Second, birds might fly into wind turbines and they will lose their lives. I think most of us don’t want to put these birds in danger. So I say to you all tonight, please don’t let them build wind turbines in Gale Hills.

Thank you, Eva, and thank you again, Dave. That was a very interesting discussion.

And next week we will vote(投票) on if we should have wind turbines in Gale Hills. I ask you to think long and hard about it.
