When we get help from others, we say "Thank you". So "Thank you" is very popular among us Chinese
students. But is it as popular in the UK?
The answer is "no". Here is a recent survey in the newspaper. "Thank you" is only the 20th most
popular way of showing gratitude (感激) in the UK.
The survey shows that British people like "Cheers" most. For example, when friends invite each other
for a drink after a game, a smile and a "Cheers" may be the best way to say "thanks". "Cheers" also means
  "ganbei" in Chinese.
You may often hear the word between two good friends. "Great", "nice one" and "all right" are also
 popular ways of showing gratitude.
Of course, there are some formal (正式的) ways to say "thanks" among British people. For example,
when a stranger is especially helpful, they may say "brilliant" or "much appreciated (感谢)" to show their
 gratitude.
By the way, British people usually like to say: "You're welcome", "No problem" or "Sure" to answer "
 thank you".
So why not try some of them to show your thanks. It could be cool!

It is the duty of every man to work. The life of a lazy (懒惰的) man is of no use to himself and to others. If the man is too lazy to work, he will usually become an unuseful man. Everyone, when he is young, should learn some useful work.

But it is not enough for a man to learn some kind of work. He should put his heart and soul (精力) into his work, and not waste(浪费) his spare time. “Work while you work and play while you play” is as good rule for young people as old.

There is no better to help to diligence (勤奋) than the habit (习惯) of early rising, and this, just like all other good habits, is most easily formed in youth. There is an English saying “Lost time never returns.” This means that everybody must be diligent, and make good use of time. One must study hard when one is young so that one can make great progress, succeed in life and become useful to one’s country. So we can say that diligence is the mother of success.

Swimming is very popular in summer. People like swimming in summer because water makes people feel cool. If you like swimming and swim in a wrong place, it may not be safe. These years, more than twenty people died while they were enjoying themselves in the water, and most of them were students. But some people are still not careful in swimming. They often think they swim so well that nothing can happen to them in water. Summer is here again. If you go swimming in summer, don’t forget that swimmers have died in water. They died because they were not careful, not because they could not swim. So don’t get into water when you are alone. If there is a “No swimming” sign, don’t get into water, either. If you remember these, swimming will be safer.
