Lonely Planet, the world-famous travel guide (旅游指南), suggests interesting places for people to visit every year. For its "2018 Best in Asia" list, they picked only one place in China Sichuan.

What makes Sichuan so special? As Lonely Planet puts it, you can have a true taste (体验)of everything China has to offer in Sichuan.

In Sichuan, you see art like bianlian, a kind of ancient opera (古典戏剧). Performers change their masks (面具) very fast --- so fast that it looks like magic (魔术).

There is great food in Sichuan, too. It is famous for the use of Sichuan peppers (花椒) and hot chilis. In fact, Chengdu, Sichuan’s capital city, has more restaurants than any other city in the world --- around 40,000!

Sichuan also has lots of beautiful natural scenery (自然风景). In Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park, you see colorful lakes, thick forests (稠密的森林) and spectacular waterfalls (壮观的瀑布).

Finally, Sichuan is home to one of the world’s cutest animals. More than 30 percent of the world’s giant pandas live there.

When I was in college, a white cat liked to show up on our campus at times. It was clear that he was a stray (流浪的) cat because he looked thin and weak. Students would play with him after class and feed him all kinds of food. The school didn’t say anything about the cat for a long time.

It might seem like a small effort to some people. But this man risked his job – his only source of income － just to feed a tiny cat who no one else cared for. It was a very heartwarming thing to see.
