【题目】—A latest football magazine, please!

—Only one copy left. Would you like to take________, sir?

A.oneB.itC.thisD.them

【答案】B

【解析】

句意:——请给我一本最新的足球杂志!——只剩一份了。先生,您要它吗?

考查代词辨析。one一,表泛指;it它,表特指;this这个;them它们。根据“A latest football magazine”可知,此处表示单数,排除D;又因为“Only one copy left.”可知,只剩一本了,所以下文是在问是否需要剩下的最后一本,特指前文提到的那本杂志。故选B

【题目】 In the 13th century, Marco Polo, the world known Italian traveler, saw many wonderful things in China. One of the things he discovered was money made of paper. People in the West did not have such kind of money until the 15th century. However the Chinese began to use it in the 7th century.

Paper was invented by a Chinese man called Cai Lun almost 2,000 years ago. But it was not made in Europe until the year 1100. Four hundred years later, a German discovered that he could make the best paper from trees. After that countries rich in forests, such as Canada, Sweden, America, Finland became the most important ones in paper making.

Paper can be used in many ways. The common uses include newspapers, magazines and books. But do you know that paper can be used for keeping warm? In Finland, the farmers wear paper boots to keep their feet warm in the snow. And even houses can be insulated from heat or cold with paper.

However, we have to understand that paper still comes from trees now. If we keep on wasting so much paper, there will not be any trees left on the earth some day in the near future. Every day people throw away about 2,800 tons of paper in our city. It takes 17 trees to make one ton of paper. This means that we are cutting down nearly 48,000 trees every day. The fact is that it takes more than 10 years for a tree to grow.

So we must start saving paper right now. We can use both sides of every piece of paper. We can make useful things out of used paper. We can use china cups instead of paper ones. When shopping, we can use fewer paper bags and reuse them if we have some.

In short, we should keep a balance (平衡) between using paper and protecting trees, and do it now before it is too late.

Software developers (开发者) in the USA have created a game called Osmo Coding Jam. The game is designed to help children use the creative side of their minds when learning to code. Children can play the game on iPads.

Tanya Dodge is the mother of two children who play the game. According to her, these activities give her children important skills for the future. “It’s an analytical (分析的) skill,” said Dodge.

But the developers believe writing code is not just an analytical skill. “We want to explore the creative side of coding that I think is often not as explored,” said Felix Hu, an Osmo engineer. Hu added, “The coolest part is that we’re teaching kids how to be creative with code and that’s a really important thing that kids should get comfortable with because coding is creative.”

Hu also sees many parents who feel that software code is a second language that children need to learn to succeed in future jobs. Tanya Dodge agrees. She said, “l think you’re going to have to understand the idea of coding will work well in the future.” Hu also explains that very often kids grow up not understanding how a computer works. He says by breaking it down to a lower level, kids can understand that the computer isn’t as smart as they think it is.
