Millie: Hi Daniel,did you have a good summer?

Daniel: Yes. It was wonderful!I went to a summer camp.

Millie: Me too!Where was your summer camp?

Daniel: It was in the UK. We spent two weeks in the beautiful English countryside. Our camp was in a big field next to a forest and a river. We did lots of great activities. What about you?

Millie: My summer camp was by a beautiful lake in the USA. It was so much fun. We played lots of games and swam in the lake every day. What activities did you do?

Daniel: We did lots of cycling and walking through the countryside. I even learnt how to ride a horse!They also taught us lots of useful skills,like how to put up a tent and how to find the way back home by using just a watch and the sun!What else did you do?

Millie: In the evening,we all sat around the fire and sang songs. Then we read part of Alice in Wonderland before we went to sleep. When it rained,we all slept in tents,but a few nights we slept on the ground under the stars!I love being outside.

Daniel: Me too!The air was so clean and fresh. We all felt very happy. What did you like most about the camp?

Millie: I made lots of new friends!We're going to email each other and keep in touch. Do you think you'll go back next year?

Daniel: Of course!I had a great time. It was a wonderful way to spend the summer holiday.

Mary and her family had just moved into a new house. Mary had her own bedroom on the second floor. There were bushes behind the house and Mary could always hear the birds singing.

One night,Mary heard a strange noise. "Duh,duh,duh,duh …〃 It went on for a few minutes. Mary went out of her bedroom to see what it was. She found nothing. Her parents were sleeping and there were no other people in the house. Mary went back to her bedroom.

Mary heard the noise again. She thought, "Is it a cat? My

neighbour has a cat. But cats miaow. They don‘t make a noise like that."

"Maybe it's a bird flying around and looking for a place to rest. No!Birds don't make a noise like that either,

"Maybe it's my parents whispering. But that noise wasn't really a whisper either/'

Mary tried to sleep,but she heard the noise again. She was afraid. Her legs were weak and she could not walk.

"Dad,Dad,help!” she cried.

Her father came into the room and asked, "What's 仕le matter?”

"I heard a strange noise. Listen,Dad,” Mary replied.
